Hi, Charles, I know it wasn't your fault and I'm sorry you got hit. I'm just thankful that I kept current with my Norton Anti-virus! These ever-so-brilliant hackers need to get a life .... and a hobby. Like exploring their family trees - at the local zoo! One more reason why we MUST keep our data bases, etc., backed up, right?. The following site will give you all the info on this virus and also detailed instructions on how to get rid of it. In the meantime, since this particular virus is affecting so many subscribers to various rootsweb lists, please be extremely careful when opening attachments. This site will also list the various names and extensions this virus used on its attachments. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.badtrans.13312@mm.html Carol Old pictures of Wise Co VA and Sullivan Co TN residents http://pictures.care2.com/view/1/205906059 --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hi Anne, I really don't know what happened or how it happened. I think I received an infected message from one of my correspondence and my mail started doing many funny things, one of which was showing "Charles Gibbins" as the sender of ALL my incoming messages. Not knowing what else to do, I just deleted my Prodigy program entirely and then reinstalled it which seemed to fix the problem. I had not sent any recent messages to GACOLUMB-L, but suppose the virus picked up the address from my address book. My system seems to be running OK now and hope I haven't caused too much trouble. It was entirely unintentional. Thanks for the explanation, Carol. What I should have said is that it appeared to be from the list. I've heard repeatedly that it just can't happen that way, but I couldn't figure out what WAS going on. <g> Unfortunately, I deleted the "Charles Gibbons" message before running a virus scan, so I can't give you his address. If this goes to the List, hopefully he will contact you. Margaret, My GGAunt Betty Knox was married to William Humphrey Crawford, he is buried there and several of their children but I can't remember who is father was but I think that he was buried there too. It seems like his father's name might have been Peter Crawford. I will have to try to find my list of who is buried there. If you will let me know something about your Crawfords and who they married into, I will try to find out if they are connected or if any of them are buried there. I have other Crawfords that married into my different lines. Jan Idabs@aol.com wrote: > Jan, > Could you tell me which Crawford Family is buried in the old Crawford > Cemetery? As list admin, I can assure that NO ATTACHMENTS go through rootsweb. They are stripped and bounced to the admins. What you received was a reply to a post you made to the list. It came directly from the computer of the person infected with the virus. The BadTrans goes through and answers all the unanswered emails on the infected computer. It is a reply to a message sent to roots web list, but did not pass through rootsweb. If it had gone through the list itself, everyone would have received the same message and attachment. In the meantime I will unsubscribe the person with the infected computer if you will send me the email address. People are subed with addresses, but not names. Once they write and let me know that they are virus free, I will resub them. There is an old Crawford Family Cemetery that is located on the property of some of my family and there is a (I believe) Thomas E. Benning that is buried there. He was a Confederate soldier and I think that he was married to a Sarah Crawford. I am pulling from memory here as it has been a while since I checked any of this. I recently found the new websites for HERITAGE PAPERS as well as for FAMILY PUZZLERS, TNG, the monthly magazine edited by Mrs. Warrens daughter Amy Warren Sanders! Most of the items that Heritage Papers used to advertise in their annual catalog are still available, including back issues of the quarterly magazines GEORGIA GENEALOGIST and CAROLINA GENEALOGIST, lots of historic maps, as well as source materials for Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia.
