2. Yes, they did wander to Augusta and Grovetown in the 1840/50 somewhere in there. At one time I join the Augusta Genealogical Society but at that time I really didn't get much good out of it because I didn't have that many names. I have also posted on the Richmond Co web site. I believe I have seen where you too have posted your info on that site also. Thank you for the tip on the web page as it was just getting started when I was looking and not too much activity. Beulah

    3. You're very welcome. One more thought: take a look at the website of the Augusta, GA, Gen. Society - just in case your people wandered a bit south from O'burg. They are extremely active and you can place a query there. It's http://www.augustagensociety.org/. 3. Posted on: Columbia Co. Ga Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Columbia/10629 Surname: Stone, Avera ------------------------- My ancestors, William Stone and Nancy Avera, posted marriage bond in Columbia County, Ga in 1803. At some time after, they moved westward to Putnam Co, Ga to farm and raise a family. William died 1829 and his Will is recorded in the Putnam County will books. The soil was becoming depleted in Columbia. Many new citizens of Ga, and some old ones, were seeking lands more fertile, cheaper, or just available. You may need to search counties west of Columbia, unless they may have gone to the Carolinas for relatives, etc. Link: STONEs from Ga to Tx, and their kin URL: <http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=stonefam&id=I009>

    3. Beulah, I'm not an authority on this, but I'd say Dutch Fork is the area below Columbia, SC, where the two rivers join. Another name there is the community of Saxe Gotha. Then there is Sandy Run. Orangeburg is just below all this and I think everything was recorded there or at Charles Town (Charleston, SC). Try to find a reprint of "The History of Orangeburg County, SC" by A. S. Salley, Jr., 1898. I have some of the Index and for KING, it lists: George, pp 257-8, 269, 272; Mary, 111. There were no listings for WARD. But it's still an excellent book for clues and local color. He also wrote some others I can't recall at the moment. Excellent historian. 3. Are you sure that wasn't South Carolina? The area below Columbia, SC, where the two rivers came together was called Dutch Fork because of all the Germans and Swiss/Germans who settled there in the early 1700s. It is pretty close to Richmond and Columbia Counties in north GA. Some of my own people there, who were Swiss, later moved down to the Great Ogeechee, near the old Salzburger settlement of Ebenezer (above Savannah). Both areas have good records. 2. Thank you for the information. I thought I received that Dutch Fork as being NC. I will go back and look but it seems one census record gave the birth place as SC but I had not been able to prove that. That is interesting as I knew there was a German settlement in SC. Is it Orangeburgh? I can't remember. I know there were some Kings there but I couldn't connect at the time. Maybe the time has come. This has been my brick wall for so long. Thank you. Beulah McCain
