In the 1850 census is a Dawson Satterwhite, age 54 with 5 children, from ages 1 to 18, no wife listed. The only male child is a William, age 1. Real estate value was $1200.00 Suzanne Forte

    3. Posted on: Columbia Co. Ga Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Columbia/10652 Surname: Sturgis, Holcomb, Martin, Burch, Darsey ------------------------- I am just starting to research this line of our family as it seems to be the toughest one to research. My paternal grandmother is the daughter of McDuffie "Mackie" Sturgis who married Austin Holcomb in 1898. Mackie died in 1910 and is buried in Columbia County. Mackie's parents were Augustine Homer Sturgis (1842-1908) and Matilda Emma Martin (1847-1925). I believe both are also buried in Columbia County. Augustine is the son of Alfred Sturgis (1804-1844)who came to Columbia County from Maryland. His father was Andrew Sturgis. My grandmother was just a child when her mother died so I don't have a lot of information on this side of the family. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
