    3. I have been to the Magruder cemetery plot that the olives are buried at and there were teo other monuments there whn I went. One was of Ninion Offut Magruder and the other I believe was of Basil Magruder, the Sarah Olive was Ninion Offut's daughter. There are suppose to be several other there too according to the DAR, both of these Magruder markers were put there by the DAR, I think. I will have to find this information in all of my stakes of paper. 3. Michelle and all: Reid Chapel Cemetery is the same as Cemetery #4 at Ft. Gordon. The same Joshua Whitaker is in the FG interment list. Joshua O. Whitaker, 18 Feb. 1892-25 Mar. 1963 is in Cemetery #30, Linwood Cemetery. The URL for Ft. Gordon is www.gordon.army.mil but I don't know the suffix for the cemetery lists. Russell

    3. Michele: After several fruitless searches, I tried Google for "Cemeteries in GA". The second hit was Genweb/archives/ga/richmond/cemeteries. Clicking on that brought up a list. I chose Ft. Gordon.txt and there it was! Interestingly, I had just recently sent that site to a Genealogy friend in Germany because of the POW graves listed - thinking that she might help make it known to German researchers. But I hadn't even noticed all the other cemeteries listed! One track mind! 3. Alfred and Elmira are not listed in this book. The Sturgis Cemetery only has three graves in it. Lucie Sturgis 22 Dec 1887-09 Apr 1918, wife of Ed Sturgis. The other two graves are unmarked. There are a total of 23 Sturgis' in this book. Do you have any other first names? There are no Bastions listed but there are some Bastons. There is a William in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery 1875-1938 but his wife is listed as Ella V. Baston 1877-1955 There is a Mary Baston at Riverview United Methodist Church Cemetery born 24 Jun 1905 with no death date but her husband is listed as Winnard J. Baston 10 Sep 1903-14 May 1969. 3. Mrs. Braswell's book is an excellent upgrade on research in Columbia County cemeteries and Michelle Lewis is providing a noteworthy service by generously providing so many lookups. Those of you interested in Columbia County burials should not overlook the old cemeteries at Ft. Gordon. There are more than 40 of them and the list of identified interments runs to almost 500 names. Many of the family names being asked for from Michelle also appear in these Ft. Gordon cemeteries. For example, there are 11 Blackstons and 16 Blackstones on the list, 34 Whitakers and 7 Wrens. Some parts of the fort that lie in Richmond County are contiguous to the Columbia County boundary and there is no doubt the families crossed back and forth frequently. This was the area formerly called Pinetucky. I have a copy of the interment list and have visited some of the cemeteries, but I do not have the names of all the cemeteries. The army has assigned them numbers, e.g., Linwood Cemetery is Cemetery #30, and the interment list is alphabetical and by cemetery number. Also, for the lady researching Magruders, please be aware there was a branch of the family that moved to Canton, Mississippi, in the 1840s. The most recent scion of that branch was Brig. Gen. Lawson Magruder who commanded troops of the U.S. 10th division in Somalia in the early 1990s and may still be on active duty. Russell
