My name is Steve Forehand, and I am trying to recover a lost ancester from Baldwin County. Her name was Mrs. Sarah A. McLemore, and she was first discovered on the 1900 GA FED Census as an inmate in Baldwin County. The facility of course was the Georgia State Sanitorium. I wrote the Hospital, now known as Georgia Central State Hospital and ask them to help me with the old hospital records. The medical records dept. stated that the patient/inmate was filed by the county of her or his spouse. In 1900 James Brance McLemore was listed as living with his family (minus his wife) in Colquitte county Ga. This is the county I gave the medical redords dept. G.C.S. hospital could find no records of her stay.....even though I found her as a resident according to the 1900 GA census report. Eventually her family moved to North West Florida ( where I live today) Mrs. Sarah A McLamore was admitted in the Florida State Hospital (Chattahoochee) in Gadsen County FL in the year 1916, Dec. 27th. Sarah stayed here until her death in 1921. The only reason I know her name was Sarah, was because I found her name on her daughter, Florah Lee McLemore Redd's, death certificate. I interviewed a descendant, which was born in 1915 that told me she was locked up for being insane, but he couldn't even produce her name....simply Grandma McLemore. This woman was forgotten and lost in the system, and I wish to correct this problem. If anyone has acess to GA Federal Census Record and could find Mrs. Sarah A. McLemore in the 1900 and 1910 GA reports I would be very thankful. All I have on the 1900 census was very brief and short from another researcher, but no details. If I could produce two census records stating that indeed Sarah was there, then maybe they could find her medical record for me. I do know Sarah was born about 1863 in GA, that she married James Brance McLemore of N.C. Sarah had about 6 children....the first four were born in N.C. the last 2 were born in GA. The Last child born in GA was in 1893...7years later she is listed as an inmate of the Georgia Sanitorium. Thanks so much......Steve Forehand.
Is there anyone in Colquitt County that will do cemetery lookups. Thanks
Would anyone be willing to look up 2 marriage records for me? My grandfather married 2 times, I suspect both took place in Colquitt County. Jerry Brade Simpson married Rabun Rogers Thomas about 1914 and he married Minnie Lee Pitts Benton possibly December 1940. Would you be so kind as to see if these marriages did take place in Colquitt County and when? Thanks for your help. Melanie Young
