    3. Sandra, I honestly can't say whether it was legal or not at that time. I would say that that is the reason it isn't in the index I have. One of the things that I completely forgot to mention is that for many years the marriages were kept in separate indexes. One set for "white" folks, another set for "black". I don't have the set for the black females and males (they're also separate both colors by gender). I'm trying now to get someone to copy the "black" set for me so I can also post them online. If she can't do it, then I'll go and hand copy them. As I said to Christy, I hope to get down to Coffee County soon and I'll look for it then. My guess though, is that you're not going to find it in any of the books there. They may very well have married in Douglas, and just not recorded it at the courthouse. Melody > QUESTION?
