Bev..... here's what I have: Gordon ?HOWARD - or - TARRANT, b 1841, GA married Mary Ann CARVER (b 1854, d/o John CARVER & Martha METTS). Metts is my father's mother's maiden name, thus my connection to the TARRANTs. Gordon and Mary Ann are buried at John Carver Chur Cem, Coffee Co. I could not get a death certificate for either from the state of GA - no death record. However, I did not try Coffee Co courthouse, they might have death records. They are the parents of Joshua, Mary Jane, Willie and Patsy TARRANT. They all lived in Coffee Co, GA. Their son Joshua md (1) Martha Chaney and had: Archie, Annie, Ivy, James and Joshua, Jr. Then he md (2) Rachel NIPPER and had Mary, Billy, Bobby and Sarah. I have no marriage record for Willie, he was 24 yrs old and single in the 1920 Coffee Co census. The two sons: Joshua and Willie would have been the ones to have children carry the Tarrant name. Now, somewhere in the back of my mind I faintly remember hearing from somewhere that Gordon TARRANT was actually Gordon HOWARD who came to GA from TX and changed his name. Don't know if there's any truth in that, but for what it's worth I'll pass that on to you as "folk lore tales" I've come in contact with -- and right now I can't tell you where, because when I first began doing research I did not keep very good records of where information came from. Don't know if any of the foregoing will be of any help. There is a W. B. TARRANT buried at Rocky Pond Cem, Coffee Co, GA who could be a ?brother of Gordon. No records. Good luck, and if I can be of any further help, just let me know.
