    3. Hi all, I'm new to the list, and new to genealogy. I know you've probably been hounded to death with this question, and if there exists an archives where this topic has been previously discussed, please direct me to it. But I'm looking for any information on John Tanner and Mary Douglas. They are believed to be the parents of the early Tanner settlers of what became Coffee and Bacon Counties. At this point, I am not so concerned about "documented" information, in fact, I'm kind of sick of it. Anyone with family stories, hunches, hypotheses, etc., on the origin of this family, and what became of John and Mary, please contact me. I have heard that the names Joseph and Cal have been regarded as John's ancestors, but I'm not so quick to believe that. If they did come from SC, like is generally believed, I can go do research at the SC state archives, near where I live and work. However, I need some names to go on. I am familiar with the late Michael Bennett's web site which details a large number of the descendents of John and Mary. The pieces just don't quite fit. I'm looking for other options and would love to share information. I am told that one person in Coffee County has travelled to England researching this family, connecting John with Lt. John Tanner, an early British soldier at Ft. Frederica. If you know of her, please either refer her to me, or me to her. I am a ggg grandson of Berry Hampton (Hamp) Tanner, who was the son of John, and first sheriff of Coffee County. I also have SEVERAL other Coffee Co. lines, especially Kirkland, but also Meeks, Youngblood, Gaskins, Lankford, Lott, Davis, Carver, Fender, etc., and have learned at least something about each of them in a very short time. This is fun! Thank you! Jeff Tanner
