Below are my paragraphs on Frances and Merritt. Hope it helps. I usually forget to say it, but I do appreciate additions and corrections. Clyde Page 1235: Children of Alexander Douglas: Frances Douglas was born Feb. 18, 1832, in Appling County, Georgia (see pg. 17, 1235). She was listed with her parents in Appling County during the 1850 census. She married first John Meeks, son of Hymrick Meeks. See Meeks Family in this section, pg. 1359. After John died, Frances married Merritt Meeks (pg. 16, para. #bc). Pages 16 & 17: Grandchildren of Amos and Elizabeth Riner continued: Children of Charles C. and Lydia (Riner) Meeks continued: #bc. Merritt Meeks was born Apr. 29, 1827, in Emanuel County, Georgia (see pg. 7). Although his tombstone says he was born in 1826, census reports indicate he was born in 1827. A male in his age group was listed with his parents in Emanuel County during the 1830 census and with them in Appling County, Ga., during the 1840 census. He married first Mary Ann Morrison in 1847 in Appling County, Georgia. Their family is in Cole-Meeks, I, 199 & II, 74; Douglas Enterprise, Aug. 30, 1973; and Wiregrass, III, 205-06. [Mary Ann was born Mar. 12, 1826, in Montgomery County and was the daughter of Hugh and Mary (-?-) Morrison.] Their children: Malcolm H. (see pg. 51), John James (see pg. 51), Mary Jane (see pg. 52), Merritt "Bud" Jr. (see pg. 52), Hymrick M. "H. M." "Little Hymrick" (see pg. 52), Daniel (see pg. 53), Charles Francis "Frank" (see pg. 53) and Mary Ann (see pg. 53). They were farming, next door to his brother, Hymerick, in Appling County during the 1850 census. They were farming, next door to his nephew, Redding Green Meeks (pg. 43, para. #baa), in Coffee County, Ga., during the 1860 census. Merritt was a private in Company I, 4th Ga. Cavalry Regiment, during the War Between the States. They were farming, next door to his brother, Hymerick, and two houses from his nephew, Merritt Meeks (pg. 47, para. #bbb), in Coffee County during the 1870 census. He was a justice of the peace for Coffee County. They were charter members of Union Baptist Church in Coffee County. Mary Ann died Feb. 2, 1879. Merritt married second Frances (Douglas) Meeks Oct. 27, 1879, in Ware County, Georgia. [Frances was born Feb. 18, 1832, in Appling County; was the daughter of Alexander and Dicy (Watson) Douglas; and was the widow of John Meeks. See Douglas in the Related Families Section, pg. 1235.] They were farming, next door to his son, John, and four houses away from his nephew, Stafford Meeks (pg. 47, para. #bbd), in Coffee County during the 1880 census. Merritt died July 16, 1884, at Nicholls, Georgia. He and Mary Ann are buried in Old Meeks Cemetery, northeast of Nicholls. Frances was listed with her son-in-law, Elisha Moore, in Ware County, Ga., during the 1910 census. She died Feb. 4, 1913, and is thought to be buried in an unmarked grave in Meeks Cemetery, at Nicholls.
