Thursday, June 23, 1938 MRS. EMMA SMITH DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Mrs. Emma P. Smith, affectionately call "Aunt Emma" by many friends, died at her home Friday after an illness of eighteen months. The funeral rites were conducted at Lone Hill church by Rev. Bud Burkett, Rev. C. T. Underwood and Mr. J. H. Green. The pall bearers were T. H. Ball, George Whittle, Bill Whittle, Shad Lott, and George Deen. Mrs. Smith had been a member of the Baptist church since early childhood. Her girlhood home was in North Carolina. After coming to Coffee county many years ago she placed her membership in the Broxton Baptist church, where she was a devout and faithful member. Her life was characterized by daily practice of her religion. As long as her health permitted she was a regular attendant at all religious services in the town. An absorbing interest of her life was her love for little children. Many times before her health began to fall, she would organize a Bible class and teach the children verses from the scripture. Throughout her illness she portrayed marked fortitude and sweet spiritedness. She was seventy-nine years of age. She was the widow of the late Francis M. Smith who preceded her twelve years ago. Surviving her are two brothers, Ed Carelock, of Center Hill, Fla., and John Carelock of Helena.
