    1. Re: [GACOFFEE] Lewis's & Sims Funeral Home

    3. June, I checked the cemetery book and they're not listed. Neither is Claude's father. There are SOOO many unmarked or unknown graves in Coffee County. I classify unmarked graves as just that..unmarked. And unknown graves may have a slab or marked somehow, but the writing has eroded. One thing you may want to consider (if you haven't already done so) is to call Sims Funeral Home. Their number is 912-384-1234. The lady that help me there is named Mary and she was very helpful and friendly when I called her about my great-uncle Mitch King. They had a record on him and it listed his father and I think his mother (I'll have to find it again to be sure) which cemetery he was buried in (Arna Church) and a record of the costs including the fact that the family purchased a new shirt, socks, and underwear for him. It also listed who paid for the funeral. I'm not sure how far back their records go, I do know that they don't have a record of Mitch King's sister my ggrandmother, Jane King Benton who died around 1926. I checked to see if they had a record of a young Kirkland boy, Frank Kirkland, who died in 1936 and they didn't have anything on him either. It wasn't all that common at that time to bury the family themselves without using the funeral home. In the case of my ggrandmother, she lived out near Bridgetown and was buried at Union Church. I know that money was probably a big factor in the family and neighbors handling everything themselves also. Let me know what happens when you call them. Take care, melody > Thanks,Melody > It has :Claude J.Lewis June 1,1944 and PearlLewis :3-12-1942,no dates on > Claude father. > Thanks Again, > June
