    3. Civil War buffs...I have several questions about Barrows [Bars] Bluff and the war: 1. What was the specific Union Army company that was sent down the Ocmulgee River to capture the river crossings and riverboat landings? Specifically, the Barrows Bluff site in Coffee Co.? 2. What route would this company have taken to rejoin Sherman's Army in Savannah? Or did they rejoin at another point? 3. What happened to Sherman's army after Savannah? How would they have traveled back North? What route? Our problem: Gerald's great-great grandmother left at Barrows Bluff with a member of the Union company to return to an unknown point in the North. His g-great grandfather had died in 1862 during the early part of the war. His great-great grandmother, fell in love with the Union Army member and returned North without her children. We have no idea of her maiden name since she was from Darien, GA. As you know, this site was almost destroyed by Sherman's troops, thus few records exist for Darien. We do believe that since she was a widow she would have used her husband's surname as she traveled and married this Union man. This is a big brick wall in our research. Any suggestions for tracing her will be appreciated. Thanks, Dr. Martha Wooten Solomon
