Hello, I am also researching the Smith family. My great grandfather was Warren Smith and brother to Julia Ann, Ardelia and Margaret. Their father and mother was William J. Smith and Elizabeth Dent Smith. William J. Smith last appears on the 1850 Census of Ware County. Elizabeth is listed in the 1860 Census of Coffee County and at that time, Julia Ann is 15 years old, Ardelia is 11 years old, Warren is 5 years old, and Margaret is 3 years old. Elizabeth last appears on the 1880 Census of Coffee County and is 63 years old. Margaret Melinda is 22 years old then and lives with her. My question is what happened to William J. and when did he die. I was told by family history that he died in an Indian War. It could have been the 3rd Seminole Indian War but I have no proof.
