    3. Kati posted a note on her Ware County mailing list concerning the Ga newspaper project that UGA has undertaken. Since I've recently had the pleasure of speaking with Jeannie there a number of times recently, I thought I'd post it to this list, since the majority of you are probably on both lists. this is really a great project that UGA has. The Satilla Reigonal Library in Coffee county has recently ordered all of the microfim pertaining to Atkinson county. we're so excited about this and the films should be here within a couple of weeks. there are two issues of the Coffee County Gazette Sep 10, 1880 and Feb 05, 1881 and I hope these are ledgible. the Pearson Tribune began in 1917 and there are 8 of those reels. We've had the back issues of theDouglas Enterprise and we'll bring it up to 2001 and the Coffee County Progress we'll have up until it went out of business in 1985. We also have the Douglas Breeze also. In looking at the list, you will see that Broxton had a newspaper once. It was called the Broxton journal. and if you look at the dates listed, ( Jun. 24, 1932-Mar. 10, 1933), it seems that it was only in business for less than a year. That's not true.. these are the only two issues that UGA has. Sometimes they are only able to find one issue of an old newspaper. While cleaning and sorting some cabinets at the Library, I came across a file that had some old newpaper clippings in it. These were donated files and the clippings were on the Rawlins trial. these were from the Broxton journal and they were printed from around 1907 if I remember correctly, which means the Broxton journal was around for a number of years. As soon as the ladies at the Newspaper Project microfilm the Jeff Davis County newspapers, then Satilla Regional Library will be ordering those. (The Library is composed of Coffee, Atkinson, and Jeff Davis) In talking with a local retired professor here in Coffee, he mentioned that he had used the Savannah Morning News as a source for several of his books or papers. The Morning News often carried items relating to other counties, including Coffee. And I've come across some articles pertaining to Coffee county that were printed from the Hawkinsville papers. So if you live near a library that has newspapers on microfilm, be sure and check them out for info pertaining to Coffee County.
