Steve and other list members, Does anyone know if this Joseph Tanner might be related to Jim Tanner? As you might remember Joshua Kirkland is buried in Ward Cemetery on 'Jim Tanner's farm' in Coffee County. Just curious if there is a connection between Joshua Kirkland and these Tanner men and if so, what that connection might be. I find it very odd that Joshua Kirkland was also in Florida the same time as Joseph Tanner. I think I might have answered this somewhat by my own questions. In looking further, I see a Hester Ward who was married to a John W Tanner. Hester was born in 1830 and they married 5-18-1878. Have no further info on John W Tanner, but think I may have found the connection between the Kirkland and Tanner families :-) Hester Ward was a daughter of Zilpha Kirkland and James P Ward. Zilpha Kirkland (1795/1848) was a daughter of Richard Kirkland, Jr and a sister to Joshua Kirkland. James P Ward was her second husband and they had 11 children. James P Ward was a son of James Ward and Priscilla Gibbs (no further info on these folks), I imagine if we could find the Land Records for any of these Tanner/Ward/ Kirkland men, they must have owned land very near to one another or might have even bought/sold land to one another. It's funny how you can have something and look at it for years only to pick it up much later, re-examine it, and find clues you had overlooked all that time :-) I've always been curious why Joshua Kirkland was buried on this Jim Tanner's farm and not in the Kirkland Cemetery with his wife. Finally I think I get it...or at least some of it :-) Steve, I hope my ramblings haven't created more confusion for you in your search for Joseph Tanner. I just find there too many coincidences for there not to be a connection between these families. If you find your Joseph Tanner, would you mind letting me know? It might help to answer more of my own questions.
