Hi Everyone, I sent an email to Nancy Parr and thought I would ask my ?s here also. I am trying to find out more info on the father of Richard Kirkland,Jr.- b.1765 S.C.d.1804 in Bulloch Co.Ga.His father was Richard Kirkland Sr. who died in 1788 in Effingham Co.Ga.Nancy told me that there is a reference in the Kirkland Resource Books that this Richard Sr. is the s/o a Richard Kirkland who died before 1743 in Fairfax Co.Va.I had access to this Kirkland book when I lived in Jacksonville,Fl.Does anyone here with those books happen to know of any other "tidbits" of info concerning this?I have moved to Richmond,Va.and I think I might be able to find out some more about this line with a little bit of help. For example: 1)possible names of this Richard Sr.'s wife? 2)I have 4 children for them-Richard Jr.,John,Isaac and Samuel. Were there anymore children? 3)Does anyone have any idea where in S.C. Richard Jr. was born? I am going to an antique show this weekend and they will have several vendors that sell old books.I have seen lots of books on Virginia and the Carolinas before here and if I can get some more ideas or hints I woulld like to check out the state library downtown, too.Thank You Denah Kirkland Skipper _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
I have a note here which I do not have a source for. Maybe Melody knows it. It may have even come from the "Descendents of Richard Kirkland" book. But it was read to me by my aunt over the phone. So, there's my source. My paraphrased version: Richard Kirkland was a man with no heirs other than a "son of a sister in Scotland". Richard Kirkland's will was either dated or probated Jan 13, 1724, in Lancaster Co., VA. Seems to me I remember something about his will being written on his deathbed, but that he was of sound mind. I also have some other dates written by these names, but don't remember now what they mean. Next to Richard Kirkland I have (1709-1727), and under "son of sister of Scotland" I have (d. 1804). I got the impression that the "son of the sister in Scotland" was Richard Kirkland, and that he came to America to inherit his uncle's estate. Now here' my theory: This Richard Kirkland married Mary Snoden/Snowden in Virginia. I understand that the Snodens/Snowdens were well off therefore, Richard Kirkland's inheritance would have had to have been impressive to earn Mary's hand. Their children moved to SC. Our Richard Kirkland, b. 1765, is a grandson of Richard and Mary. Can we prove any of that?
