My roots run deep in the Coffee County soil as do many of yours: My father's side of the family runs through his Mother's side: My grandmother's parents were: William Manning Smith, Sr, and Josephene Tucker. Josephene Tucker was the daughter of Mose Tucker and ? On my Mother's side, the list is a good bit longer: My grandfather was the son Dave Benton and Jane King. Jane King was the daughter of Thomas and Mary King and was first married to John Franklin Griffin. I've been told his parents were Ellen Pridgen and James Griffin. Nothing further there. On a side note Jane King was also the sister of Mitchell King who married Mary V. Parker (don't have her parents) and also the sister of Sara Ann King who married Matthew Daniel. My grandmother was the daughter of L. J. Kirkland and Laura McGovern, so we can go back there to Richard Kirkland, through both Joshua and Moses Kirkland. Laura's parents were Thomas McGovern and Adeline Ricketson, so the Ricketson family connects through to the Sears, Nobles, and Arnold family. The McGovern family connects to the Peterson line also. Like most of you, I have more info on some families than others. I also probably have a few mistakes and certainly a number of dead-ends. My husband comes through a lot of the different lines of Coffee County and I'll send them next. Melody
