Hi Shirley, Mind if I ask you a question? I have a Manning Spivey who is married to a Mary Kirkland, daughter of Joshua Kirkland, Jr. and Hester Clesta Lott. I show this Mary Kirkland as being born 1-15-1888 and that she married Manning Spivey on 7-4-1906 in Coffee Co., Ga. Are these your dad's parents?? Do I have his mother's name incorrect? What about the other dates; are they right? I don't have any other info on this Manning Spivey nor do I have any children listed. Unfortunately this is one of the couples that I lost my source documentation and haven't been able to find it again. I'd be interested in any info you could share if these are your dad's parents. Hi Nancy, I don't mind repeating this story at all.It has offended some folks but the truth is the truth.Okay,yes you do have what you have written about Manning Spivey and Mary Kirkland right.Nancy,when Joshua Jr.was married to Hester Clesta Lott,her mind went bad and she was put in a home for many years,and never got able before her death to come home.Well in the meantime Joshua Jr.(my G-grandfather)got this lady to come to his home and take care of his kids,Minnie,Linnie,Mary and Seward.This woman's name was Sarah Elizabeth Spikes.Well as the story goes,Joshua Jr.had an affair with this woman and they have 3 more children,Lillie,Penny and Ben Kirkland.When Manning married Mary Kirkland,they had two children,My uncle Homer and Aunt Vivian,the she passed away.After Mary's death he married her half sister Lillie.(my grandmother) Hope I haven't plum drove you crazy with this,but this is how it was.
