He had married first Martha Ella Thomas on July 14, 1895, in Coffee County. She was born Jan. 24, 1877, probably in Coffee County, and was the daughter of Aaron F. and Lydia Ann (Meeks) Thomas. They were farming in Coffee County during the 1900 and 1910 censuses. Their children include Ira C., Bertha, Ethel, Dora and Dolly. (I'm not sure if there were any others or not.) John and Martha Ella were divorced. She died Dec. 3, 1953, and is buried in Douglas City Cemetery. I have some information on their children, if you are interested. > Need some help myself. Kiler was born circa 1855, probably in Telfair County. Timothy was born circa 1833 in Telfair County and died May 6, 1864, at Spottsylvania Courthouse, Virginia. Celia Lankford Kirkland Meeks was born in 1834 and died in 1918. She is buried in Kirkland Cemetery, east of Douglas. > As always, let me say that nothing I have in my database is 'written > in stone' meaning that I'm sure I have my share of mistakes.
