Can some of you Kirkland researchers connect with these folks: ------------------------------------------------------------------ FUNERAL HELD FOR LEON KIRKLAND, 52 A large crowd gathered at Chatterton Grove Holiness Baptist Church Sunday afternoon for the funeral services of Leon Kirkland, 52, Rt. 2, Broxton. Mr. Kirkland was a widely known, well liked resident in the Broxton Community. Members of the Chatterton Grove Church composed a large choir which sang several songs at the service. The Rev. Henry ________, assisted by the Rev. Stanford Williams were officiating ministers. Survivors include his wife, Lillie Vickers Kirkland; son, Vickers Kirkland, Kirkland, GA; daughter Miss Mary Kirkland, Douglas; four brothers, Dave Kirkland, Frank Kirkland, Will Kirkland, and Warren Kirkland, all of Douglas. Three sisters, Mrs. I. T. Torrance, Douglas, Mrs. Nancy Day, Haynes City, FL, and Mrs. Josephine Kirkland, Jacksonville, FL. Burial was in the church cemetery at Chatterton Grove with Douglas Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Osborn Kirkland, Carl Adams, Willis Kirkland, George Kirkland, David Kirkland, Woodrow Kirkland, Clyde Kirkland, and Jim Kirkland. ---------------------------------------- When I checked the Coffee Co. Cemetery book, his burial information was listed as: Leon Kirkland, h/o Lillie Vickers b. Nov. 25, 1898 d. Nov. 17, 1950 Lillie Vickers Kirkland, w/o Leon Kirkland b. Jan. 18, 1902 d. July 1985 I also found the engagement announcement for Mary Kirkland in the Douglas Enterprise dated Jan. 10, 1957. It stated her full name was Mary DeLanie Kirkland, and that she was the daughter of the late Mr. Leon Kirkland of Broxton. Her marriage was recorded in the Coffee County Marriage Books as April 14, 1957. She married Talmadge E. Arnette, son of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Arnette of Brunswick. Mary Kirkland Arnette was a very close friend of my mother's. Thanks, Luan Harper Brunswick, GA lyh@gate.net
