You know, it's not so much census takers misspelling names as those who transcribe them for the indexing system! I went to the public library, checked Ancestry.com and guess what ... The name is McCall !! Not only that in both census his name is Jehu, not John, etc.! Go figure!! People unfamiliar with our southern names often make a guess. I do appreciate your help. My mother's mother was a LOTT. Do you have the Lott book? If I can look anything up for you just say the word. Thanks again!
