any way, the story goes that a Sears relative and her husband were drinking at church and fussin' at each other for most of the day. On the way home they really blew up and the Sears killed the Anderson. I think I remember that it was a knifing. This had to be prior to 1900. ----- Original Message ----- From: mel <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 9:09 PM Subject: Re: [GACOFFEE] M. L. Hi Diana, It seems like I've heard this story before, maybe it was discussed here on the Coffee County list or the Ware list a few years ago. I just finished reading the book, Blind Obedience, about the Rawlins and Carter families. It was mentioned that there was a rumor that Mr. Rawlins had either killed or had killed a Hiram Sears. I haven't found anything about that yet in the papers, but will keep looking. Does anyone know about this Hiram Sears? Yes, I do, I am a direct descendant. He is my ggg?father. Yes Family legend says he was killed on his way back from a drinking night in town--he was found by the side of the road next to his wagon. Not to offend my relatives, living or dead, but family tales indicate that this Sears family is a rough tumble kind of crowd. diana in las vegas ----- Original Message ----- From: mel <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 10:06 PM Subject: Re: [GACOFFEE] Mary Sears Anderson's husband murdered > Hi Diana, > It seems like I've heard this story before, maybe it was discussed here on > the Coffee County list or the Ware list a few years ago. > > I just finished reading the book, Blind Obedience, about the Rawlins and > Carter families. Diana, remind me again when this happened so I can check it for you. I believe it to be in the late 1800s to early 1900s. It would have involved Hamilton and Mary Vickers Sears' daughter Mary b. June 6, 1879. She married first a Anderson who was murdered and then she m. Arthur Gillis. She was my 3 rggrand aunt. If anyone has info on her death date, children, etc on her it would be appreciated.
