May 21, 1990 Mr. Jim Davis, age 72, of Route 1, Douglas, passed away Monday night, May 21, 1990, at the Jeff Davis County Hospital in Hazelhurst, Ga., following an extended illness. Mr. Davis, a native of Berrien County, Ga., had lived in the Coffee County area for many years. He was a retired farmer. He was the son of the late John Davis and the late Annie Lott Davis. He was the husband of the late Lemmie Merritt Davis. Survivors include: 4 daughters, Mrs. Laverne Cothern, Mrs. Lillian Jenkins, Mrs. Maxine Wright, and Mrs. Corrine Wise, all of Denton, Ga.; 2 sons, Jimmy Carl Davis and Roscoe Davis, both of Douglas, Ga.; 3 sisters, Mrs. Thelma Stevens of Douglas, Ga., Mrs. Annie Mae Harper of West Green, Ga., and Mrs. Lillie Mae Barnhart of West Virginia; 3 brothers, John H. Davis of Douglas, Ga., Quitman Davis of West Green, Ga., and Allen Davis of Waycross, Ga.; 17 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 23, 1990, at 3:00 p.m., at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home, with Rev. John Huey Mathews and Rev. Steve Strickland officiating. The interment followed in the Salem Cemetery. Active pallbearers were: Tommy Stevens, Buddy Stevens, Ronnie Merritt, Gene Merritt, Rev. Barry Peavy, and Melvin Carter. Members of the Douglas City Fire Department served as honorary pallbearers. Special music selections were rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Leon "Mann" Kirkland, with Mrs. Lois Mills at the piano. Survivors include: his wife, Anita Cothern Davis of Douglas, Georgia; three sons: Jerry Davis of Ambrose and Terrell and Michael Davis of Douglas, Georgia; three sisters: Annie Mae Harper of West Green, Georgia, Thelma Stevens of Douglas, Georgia, and Lillie Mae Barnheart of Parkersburg, West Virginia; two brothers: Quitman Davis of West Green, Georgia, and Allen Davis of Waycross, Georgia; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 3 P.M., Thursday, September 24 at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home in Douglas with the Rev. Sime Morris officiating. Special music was provided by Mann Kirkland, Larry and Patsy Spivey as they sang "It's A Long, Long Journey" and "I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You" with Lois Mills accompying at the organ.
