Sheriff Carlton Evans lost his position to Rob Smith, deputy and brother-in-law to Sheriff Evans' wife. Carlton Evans had been Sheriff for 12 years. Melody

    3. Clyde, With your permission, I will forward your query on to someone in Douglas that has access to at least the Jeff Davis Cemetery book and possibly the Telfair cemetery book also. I apologize for the fact that you were somehow removed from the list. I can assure you that neither Karen nor myself had anything to do with it. Sometimes these list utilities have a mind of their own. I was bumped off of the Ware County list back around the first of the year for no apparent reason and not by the listowner there, either. I did wonder if you were on vacation as we had not heard a thing from you and I know that you are always willing to help when you can! In fact, I asked Emmett (Meeks) about you not too long ago. And you are definitely right, a loud mouth is no reason to be removed from the list. Sometimes you were the "only" mouth on the list!!<G> We all know this list can be slow or even dead at times, but I could pretty much count on you to post something every now and then. So..just jump right back in!! We did miss you!!! 1. [GACOFFEE] Love Ann
    2. Searching for a Love Ann (Lovan) Jewell. Born c.1865 in Coffee Co., GA. Not really sure Jewell was her name. Her mother might of been a Rose/Rosa Smith. It's possible her last name could of been Henderson also. I know this is crazy, but we all are at a dead end on finding Love Ann. The only thing we have is her death certificate that states her last name was Jewell and born in Coffee Co., GA. We just can't find anything else on her. But other stories we have been told make it possible her last name was not Jewell. We understand she never married. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mary MLewis9749@aol.com

    3. I'm looking for a Jonathan Neal Hooks, possibly born in the 1880s, to pass on information to a great-granddaughter of his. There is a death certificate on file in Georgia for a J. N. Hooks who died Mar. 11, 1949, in Telfair County. His age was 67 and he was a resident of Jeff Davis County. Since he was listed as a resident of Jeff Davis County, he was probably buried there, but what do I know? I don't have the cemetery books for Jeff Davis or Telfair counties. If someone has a cemetery book for Jeff Davis or Telfair county, would you please look up J. N. Hooks and let me know what it says. Dates, cemetery, spouse, etc. If someone has access to obituaries or death certificates for Telfair County, would you please look up J. N. Hooks, who died Mar. 11, 1949, and tell me the details. Thanks. It appears that somehow I was removed from the Coffee County Rootsweb list. I didn't realize that I wasn't still on the list until I tried to send the above message to the list. I wonder how I was removed? And why? I mean, just because I'm a loud mouth, that's no reason to remove me. Clyde

    3. Any help for this person on lookups- tom atkinson- reply to her -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Wilcox - Coffee County, GA Date: Sun, 06 Aug 2000 12:06:17 -0700 From: Chuck Reed <chuckreed@i-55.com> To: Tomjax@worldnet.att.net Hi, Tom -- I am looking for any records reflecting the following ancestors in Coffee County: 1) DANIEL LOTT WILCOX, M.D. b. 05/19/1848 (Appling Co.), d. 04/16/1886 (Coffee Co?) (Married to Mary Ann Curry, b. 04/29/1850, d. 12/31/1914) -- And the following child of the above: 2. DANIEL JOHN WILCOX b. 09/24/1875 (Nicholls, GA), d. 03/05/1929 (Nicholls, GA) (Married to Harriet Susanna ("Sudie") Mims, b. 04/01/1882, d. 01/12/1962). It's possible DANIEL LOTT W. (#1) and family could be in the 1880 census of Coffee Co., since their child, DANIEL JOHN, was born in Nicholls and would have been 5 y/old at time of census. Family info does not state where DANIEL LOTT W. died, but he is buried in Hazlehurst City Cemetery in Jeff Davis Co. (I'm checking there for cemetery lookups.) DANIEL JOHN W. (#2) and his wife, Sudie, were living in Coffee County when their 9 children were born, one of whom was my maternal grandmother: EDNA WILCOX (BENNETT). I would love to know if this family and their surviving children are listed in the 1910 census of Coffee Co. I don't know if anyone out there has publications of census records for 1880 and 1910, but if these families are listed, I'm looking for copies of any records showing they existed. Most likely there are no birth certificates, but may be something (possibly historical) on DANIEL LOTT W., who was a physician until his death at 37. I believe he lived and died in Coffee Co., but he is buried near his parents in Jeff Davis Co. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP???? (I'm way over here in Louisiana!) ... many thanks! With Georgia on her mind, Terri F. Reed

    2. Hi Nancy, James P. Ward being Zilpha Kirkland's 2nd husband is new to me, I did not know about her 1st husband being James Jones, so thank you for sharing that information. I do believe that I have the children of James P. Ward and Zilpha Kirkland, I show 11 children also. As for James P. Ward's parent's, James Ward and Priscilla Gibbs, daughter of Abraham Gibbs, I show that she married twice, James Ward and Christopher Hargraves. The son's that I have for them are James Preston Ward, born 1791 in Pitt Co., NC; died 1852; Joab Ward, Abraham Gibbs Ward and Jacob Ward. I have no information than that on them. I was hoping to get more information on the son's to see if my gg-grandfather Jackson Davis Ward was related to one of them. That's why I was curious to talk with you about the Kirkland's since Kirkland's married into Ward family. 3. Karen, I know that David W. Pethick has a lot of info on the Ward family. I'll print out your info and take it with me the next time I get down to Douglas. Checking Zilpha Kirkland and husband James Preston Ward..there isn't a listing of his family in the book. They did however have a son that they named Jackson Ward born abt 1817/1818 who married Sarah Davis. In checking on Jackson Ward and Sarah Davis..they don't have a son named Jackson Davis Ward, however there is one named after his father: James P. Ward born 10/8/1850, died 1865. The line stops with these children. (in the book) Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Hi Nancy, I took a look at the Kirkland book, compiled by Betty Kirkland Schledensky and here's some more info that I found: > James Cuyler Kirkland, born 10-12-1870; married Charity Hughes > 1-12-1902 Betty has him listed as John Cuyler Kirkland > Alice Willie Kirkland, born 4-30-1879; married H.M. They are all "working" copies, with one being given to my great Uncle Alton Kirkland by Betty Kirkland S. before it was actually published. The other two have had been updated by the people that owned them, and they pretty much just added their immediate family only. I'll be glad to look for any other names that you may need. Take care, Melody

    3. I copy everything that comes up about the Kirklands in hopes that some day I will find the parents of my grandmother Marcyline Kirkland and her brother Hinton Krkland. They both were born in the 1800s, I don't know the dates or when they died but think they died in the early 1900s. I am hoping when I find out who their parents were them I will have the info that will tie them into the other Kirklands. If you happen to see these names, would you please let me know. That is my brick wall. Thanks for sharing your info. Always Clydie
