Are there any computer wizards out there that might help me? I've been having trouble with my old and so slow computer so I bought a new one. I have an extremely large number of e-mails saved on that computer in my Outlook files. There are links to other pages, posts from this lists and others requests to change e-mail addresses on the surname and query pages. Requests for look-ups and my list of people to send thing to, among other things. with all the files, it probably amounts to about 2,00 e-mails. I tried to download the files according to the help file. Apparently the outlook mail folders all end in .dbx When I load the floppy into the computer, all that seems to be on the file is computer gibberish. Is there a way I can convert that gibberish to English? Am I copying the files the wrong way? I gave my son the old computer and will be going over to his apartment to get it hooked up to the internet. Do I have to send those old e-mails one at a time to my new computer? I would appreciate any ideas, guys!! Thanks, Melody
What a delightful feature. All these beautiful old photos are a real treasure. Thank you for allowing all of us to enjoy them with you. It is a shame to lock up such treasure in boxes or even hide them away on the walls of our houses for only us to enjoy <G> Sure wish I had some pix of my Coffee County ancestors to share. Again, Thank you. Sharon

Thanks, Emmett ----- Original Message ----- From: "denah skipper" <dfs01@hotmail.com> > Hi everyone, > Forgot to mention this:the book with will abstracts from 1760-1800 is > indexed by counties and not by surnames like the earlier book.I will be able > to find out your info quicker if you have the county to go along > with the surname! > Denah >
Hi Emmett, I don't have any Meeks in the older book. There was no listing for Pitt Co in the later book.I checked the intro page and Pitt Co.is shown as being formed in 1760 and the county courthouse being burned in 1857. Hello, I checked in both books for the Surname Seabolt. There were no Seabolts in the older book which covers 1690-1760,there were Seays and some Sears. In the later supplement book 1760-1800 there weren't any Seabolts in the Lincoln Co. wills.About Ashe co.,it is mentioned in the introductory page as being formed in late 1799, but there was no listing of wills for that county in the book.Could Ashe Co. have been annexed or absorbed by another county? Thanks to the generosity of one of our newest list members, we are proud to announce the addition of yet another picture of our Coffee County Pioneers. Wanda Chason, great-granddaughter of D. P. And Salina Lankford Spivey donated the photo and it can be seen at: http://www.geocities.com/coffee_cnty/salinalankfordspivey.html Please join me in thanking her. Wanda is searching not only the Lankford and Spivey families of Coffee County, she's also searching the Arnolds, Whites, and Ricketsons among others. I'm sure there are several of us that are from the same lines as she. Take care, Melody

I just wanted to let you all know that we've added some new pages and pictures to the Atkinson and Coffee County websites. At the Atkinson site, we've added a new will page and you can find it at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Lane/3390/wills.html I only have one will there so far and it is the will of Jesse M. Pafford. If anyone has a will that they would like to post to either the Coffee County or Atkinson county websites, please let me know (off the list, please) We've added the pictures of Diana Sjoberg's grandparents, Will and Lucy Ella Anders/Andrews, along with their obituaries. They can be seen at: http://www.geocities.com/atkinson_cnty/andrews.html We've added a picture of a very young Kiler Kirkland, Jr., great-grandfather of Denah Skipper. He can be seen at: http://www.geocities.com/coffee_cnty/kiler_jr.html And for now we've also added a picture of my great-grandfather (brother to Kiler Kirkland, Jr.), Ellijay (LJ) Kirkland. He can be seen at: http://www/geocities.com/coffee_cnty/ljkirklandfamily.html If anyone has any pictures, wills, deeds, letters, or anything else that may be of interest to the folks searching the Coffee and Atkinson site, please feel free to contact us, we'll be glad to post them along with a credit to you. Take care, Melody

This may sound a little strange but my sisters say our Grandma Marcyline Kirkland Waters's mother was a Poppell before she married a Kirkland. Does anyone show any connections of these two families anywhere anytime??? I am hanging by a thread hoping someday I will fine who the parents of my Grandma Kirkland were. Any news at all will be greatly appreciated. Always Clydie
Can a kissing cousin be removed? The answer is yes. But what is a kissing cousin? And how long has it been that they could be removed? kissing cousin: noun: a person and especially a relative whom one knows well enough to kiss more or less formally upon meeting (Webster's Collegiate Dictionary) kissing cousin, a cousin or other relative close enough to kiss in greeting or leave-taking. (The World Book Dictionary) [I have been wrong all these years. I thought a kissing cousin was one that was distantly related or one that I wanted to kiss, for the sake of kissing.] How about cousins being removed, as in first cousin once removed? removed: adjective: of a younger or older generation [a second cousin's child is a second cousin once removed] (Webster's Collegiate Dictionary) removed: adjective: separated by one or more steps or degrees of relationship: a cousin once removed. (The World Book Dictionary) When did removed become a word having to do with cousins? Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt were fifth cousins once removed. So, was Eleanor the first to use the word? No, according to Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, the word has been used with cousins since 1548. [I thought it was something new and I thought Eleanor was ahead of her time.] Clyde

You might know when he called they were having a Thunder Storm! Boy do I ever missed that. As soon as we hear from her and what she fines I will let you know. Claude and Pearl Lewis is burid at the Byrd Church or thats where they took them. Thanks Again, June
June, I checked the cemetery book and they're not listed. Neither is Claude's father. There are SOOO many unmarked or unknown graves in Coffee County. I classify unmarked graves as just that..unmarked. And unknown graves may have a slab or marked somehow, but the writing has eroded. One thing you may want to consider (if you haven't already done so) is to call Sims Funeral Home. Their number is 912-384-1234. The lady that help me there is named Mary and she was very helpful and friendly when I called her about my great-uncle Mitch King. They had a record on him and it listed his father and I think his mother (I'll have to find it again to be sure) which cemetery he was buried in (Arna Church) and a record of the costs including the fact that the family purchased a new shirt, socks, and underwear for him. It also listed who paid for the funeral. I'm not sure how far back their records go, I do know that they don't have a record of Mitch King's sister my ggrandmother, Jane King Benton who died around 1926. I checked to see if they had a record of a young Kirkland boy, Frank Kirkland, who died in 1936 and they didn't have anything on him either. It wasn't all that common at that time to bury the family themselves without using the funeral home. In the case of my ggrandmother, she lived out near Bridgetown and was buried at Union Church. I know that money was probably a big factor in the family and neighbors handling everything themselves also. Let me know what happens when you call them. Take care, melody > Thanks,Melody > It has :Claude J.Lewis June 1,1944 and PearlLewis :3-12-1942,no dates on > Claude father. > Thanks Again, > June
