    1. [GACOFFEE] New pages added & look-ups
    2. Melody
    3. Karen and I have been busy working on pages for the Coffee and Atkinson sites. We're in the process of adding several more pages that I think you'll be interested in. We've added a couple more pictures and they can be found at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/5941/pioneerpics.html We still have a good many to add and I thank you all for sharing your pictures and contributing to the web site. We've added the will of Jesse M. Pafford to the Atkinson County site and hope to add some more marriages to it soon. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Lane/3390/paffordwill.html I hope to be down in Coffee County this weekend attending the Miss Willie Pearl Davis auction, if Mom and I are some of the few chosen lucky enough to get in there. I hope to be able to do some research at the courthouse on Friday, if I can talk Karen into playing hookey from school and helping me out. My mom,(Nell Moore), who has finally entered the computer tech age and is a new member of this list always shares her time with me and helps me with your look-ups. I don't know if she will be able to help much in the future as she has decided to come out of retirement and become a freshman at school, majoring in, of all things, computers!! WAY TO GO, MOM!!! She is always willing to help out at the courthouse and library and ALWAYS goes with me to whatever cemetery I need to visit for ya'll. Thanks Mom. Anyway..let us know if you need a look-up. I believe that we have a pretty full schedule, but we can combine some of the trips. As always, Take care, melody

    1. [GACOFFEE] My personal web page
    2. Melody
    3. I'd just like to invite everyone to take a look at my own personal web page. It's located at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/2721/index.html It's the first web page that I ever attempted and I'm pretty proud of it (even the hoky music<G>), especially since I'm self-taught. Because of the work involved with the Coffee and Atkinson counties, I've neglected the site for a long time. Recently however, I began updating it and I started with the BENTON and MOORE families. They aren't completely finished, but I think they may be interesting. If you lived in Douglas in the 50s or 60s, you may recognized some of the people and places featured in the stories listed under my Poppa Edd's page. It's at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/2721/edbenton.html Take a look and let me know what you think. I'll be adding more as time permits. I should have more Coffee genealogy on that site also. Take care, Melody

    2. Melody
    3. Sandra, You can obtain a death certificate from the Coffee County Health Department. I believe this is correct. Karen may be able to tell you more and give you the address. The cost is : Death $10.00 (issued since Jan 1919) You can also obtain it from the State Vital Records in Atlanta, but I happen to know (from doing newborn birth certificates at the local hospital here) that they are moving and changing both their address and phone number. I have it at work and will post it in the next couple of days. Also Sandra, what was that marriage that you needed looking up somewhere around 1925 or so? These two brothers, Andrew (AJ) also known as Ander and his brother Randall were outlaws (sorry Solomon researchers) and had a shootout with the Marshall of Broxton, Walter Cason, resulting in Cason's death. They were the sons of James William Solomon and Ollie Spivey. Very interesting article. Please let me know if you want a copy and reply directly to my e-mail address. Thanks, Melody

    3. Melody and Shirley, I am very interested in pursuing these folks further :-) I descend from Joshua Kirkland (and wife Sarah Fender) through their son William Franklin Kirkland (3-11-1847/11-3-1924) who was brother to the Joshua Kirkland, Jr. in question. As some of you may know, Joshua Kirkland (Sr) was married twice. His first wife was Harriet Lee; they had 5 children. We know that Joshua later married Sarah Fender and they had 8 children including William Franklin and Joshua Jr, It was only a few years ago that I 'found' Harriet Lee and any information on her children. We know that she never remarried and that she died 6-29-1869. Naturally any of us who descend from Joshua and Sarah Fender want further information on any other wives of Joshua. I looked in my database and I don't find a Lillie Kirkland. Like Melody, I show Mary Kirkland, daughter of Joshua Jr and Hester Lott. Mary married Manning Spivey on 7-4-1906 in Coffee CO., Ga. I have her date of birth as 1-15-1888. Do you think it possible that someone has mistaken the 'story' of Joshua Sr's two wives somehow? Of course, this presents more questions because I honestly don't have the other children you are showing as siblings for Lillie. I might have created more confusion by sending this in; maybe not :-) If you have further information, I'd be most interested. Do you perhaps have a date of birth on your Lillie? This might help us to place her better. Regards, Nancy E Parr
