    3. Shirley, I had to go back and read the past e-mails on the Kirklands and Spiveys. I believe I've gotten what you've written figured out now. I just need to go back and see if I have any more files that I copied on this family. The page listing Ben lists hi, Cortney her 2nd husband, Leonard Spivey, her parents James Johnson & Sarah Crosby and a listing of Ben and Cortney's children. It also lists their child Clifton "Buck" Kirkland's family They have a daughter listed as Brenda Kirkland who married a Kirkland. Also Sue Kirkland who married a Delk from Axson. Let me go see if I can find anything else. I don't know why I wouldn't have a page on Joshua, Jr. Melody > Yes,I am Melody, but it seems some people don't believe me when I say things > about who Joshua Kirkland Jr's children are.Ben Kirkland and Cortney are my > great aunt and uncle.Ben was one of the ones I was talking about before, also > Lillie and Penny. > > > > > > > > > > At 08:15 PM 10/13/00 -0400, you wrote: > >I have a paper from Edith Walls' files that states a Ben Kirkland married > Cortney Johnson. > >She does not list the parents of Ben Kirkland although someone else came > along and wrote Josh Kirkland. > > > >Is anyone familiar with this family? > >Thanks, > >melody > > > > > >==== GACOFFEE Mailing List ==== > >Please visit the Atkinson County GaGenWeb site at > >http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Lane/3390 > > > > > ----------------------------------------------------- > Click here for Free Video!! > http://www.gohip.com/free_video/ > > > ==== GACOFFEE Mailing List ==== > Please visit the Coffee County GaGenWeb site at > http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/5941 > >

    3. It all looks good to me, Melody. I loved what you wrote about Papa Edd. You need to do some more. I love reading family stories that people write of places or of people that I know or once knew. Keep up the good work. Joyce ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'd just like to invite everyone to take a look at my own personal web page. It's located at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/2721/index.html It's the first web page that I ever attempted and I'm pretty proud of it (even the hoky music<G>), especially since I'm self-taught. Because of the work involved with the Coffee and Atkinson counties, I've neglected the site for a long time. > Recently however, I began updating it and I started with the BENTON and MOORE families. > They aren't completely finished, but I think they may be interesting. > > If you lived in Douglas in the 50s or 60s, you may recognized some of the people and places featured in the stories listed under my Poppa Edd's page. 3. Rocky Pond Cemetery is located next to Rocky Pond Baptist Church. Take Hwy. 206 North from the intersection of Hwy. 32W and Hwy. 206. Go out several miles. Just after you pass the large power lines, you'll turn to the left onto a paved rd. The church and cemetery are on this road where the pavement ends. 1. [GACOFFEE] LEWIS Question
    2. I am posting this for a cousin and me. He sent me this message and I'm putting it before the group.... i hope someone has some information that will help.... Thanks... kaite.. I have recently discovered that a Francis Lewis migrated to GA. He was the youngest son of John Lewis and Catherine Faultleroy. My maternal grandfather was Andrew Francis Lewis, 2nd son of William Wiley Lewis and Martha Ann McIlwain Wiley was the second son of Charles Lewis born in GA and Nancy Riley born in NC. In my copy of Lewises, Meriwethers and their Kin, all it states that Francis Lewis was born in VA in 1755 and had sons and daughters--the book does not list them. It states that many of his descendants moved to AL and one descendant was the Hon. Dixon Lewis of the U.S. Senate. Has anyone done research on Francis and could he have had a son James who was the father of my g-g grandfather Charles? Since Charles named his oldest son James Innis or Ennis by naming patterns I am convinced that my breakthrough would be Charles son of James son of Francis son of John son of Col. Robert Lewis and Jane Meriwether--how about that for "gut feeling" genealogy.

    1. Re: [GACOFFEE] Tarrant
    2. Nancy Nilsen
    3. Bev..... here's what I have: Gordon ?HOWARD - or - TARRANT, b 1841, GA married Mary Ann CARVER (b 1854, d/o John CARVER & Martha METTS). Metts is my father's mother's maiden name, thus my connection to the TARRANTs. Gordon and Mary Ann are buried at John Carver Chur Cem, Coffee Co. I could not get a death certificate for either from the state of GA - no death record. However, I did not try Coffee Co courthouse, they might have death records. They are the parents of Joshua, Mary Jane, Willie and Patsy TARRANT. They all lived in Coffee Co, GA. Their son Joshua md (1) Martha Chaney and had: Archie, Annie, Ivy, James and Joshua, Jr. Then he md (2) Rachel NIPPER and had Mary, Billy, Bobby and Sarah. I have no marriage record for Willie, he was 24 yrs old and single in the 1920 Coffee Co census. The two sons: Joshua and Willie would have been the ones to have children carry the Tarrant name. Now, somewhere in the back of my mind I faintly remember hearing from somewhere that Gordon TARRANT was actually Gordon HOWARD who came to GA from TX and changed his name. Don't know if there's any truth in that, but for what it's worth I'll pass that on to you as "folk lore tales" I've come in contact with -- and right now I can't tell you where, because when I first began doing research I did not keep very good records of where information came from. Don't know if any of the foregoing will be of any help. There is a W. B. TARRANT buried at Rocky Pond Cem, Coffee Co, GA who could be a ?brother of Gordon. No records. Good luck, and if I can be of any further help, just let me know.
