    1. [GACOFFEE] My husbands's family
    2. Melody
    3. Here are the names that I'm searching on my husband's side of the family: Randy's grandfather, Elijah "Buddy" McCook married Nellie Pridgen, daughter of John W. Pridgen and Elizabeth Wooten. His great-grandfather I. L. McCook married Nellie Grantham, daughter of Elijah Grantham and Elizabeth Ricketson. Elijah's parents were Jackson Grantham and Annie Louise Sears, daughter of Martheny Merrit and John Sears. Jackson was the son of Elizabeth Whitley and Elijah Grantham. Eliabeth Ricketson Grantham was the daughter of Sarah A. Tucker and Vincent Carver (Ricketson) son of Sarah Ricketson and James Carver. Sarah A. Tucker was the daughter of Mary V. Paulk and Richard M. Tucker. I think I have Richard Murphey Tucker's line mixed up but Mary V. Paulk ws the daughter of Mary C. Young and Micajah Paulk. On Randy's mother's side, she was the daughter of Wiley Rogers and Viona Butler. Wiley was the son of Dona Pafford and John K. Rogers. Nothing further on John K. Rogers, but we have a good bit on the Pafford line. Dona Pafford was the daughter of Susan A. Mainor and James B. Pafford. Viona Butler was the daughter of M. Peter Butler and Alafaire Jowers. Nothing on the Butlers and Alafaire was the daughter of Eli Jowers and Mary Barrentine. Eli was the son of Isabella Blume and William P. Jowers. With all of these names, I'm sure there is much to discuss as I know that many of you are searching the same names. Please feel free to throw out a question here and there and we will certainly try our best to answer them. Take care. Melody

    1. [GACOFFEE] Family lines
    2. Melody
    3. My roots run deep in the Coffee County soil as do many of yours: My father's side of the family runs through his Mother's side: My grandmother's parents were: William Manning Smith, Sr, and Josephene Tucker. Josephene Tucker was the daughter of Mose Tucker and ? On my Mother's side, the list is a good bit longer: My grandfather was the son Dave Benton and Jane King. Jane King was the daughter of Thomas and Mary King and was first married to John Franklin Griffin. I've been told his parents were Ellen Pridgen and James Griffin. Nothing further there. On a side note Jane King was also the sister of Mitchell King who married Mary V. Parker (don't have her parents) and also the sister of Sara Ann King who married Matthew Daniel. My grandmother was the daughter of L. J. Kirkland and Laura McGovern, so we can go back there to Richard Kirkland, through both Joshua and Moses Kirkland. Laura's parents were Thomas McGovern and Adeline Ricketson, so the Ricketson family connects through to the Sears, Nobles, and Arnold family. The McGovern family connects to the Peterson line also. Like most of you, I have more info on some families than others. I also probably have a few mistakes and certainly a number of dead-ends. My husband comes through a lot of the different lines of Coffee County and I'll send them next. Melody

    3. Hi everyone, Here is an update on the list. We currently have 93 people subscribed in the list mode and 12 people subscribed in the digest mode. That's a total of 112 people on this list!! I know there are a lot of very busy people on this list, including myself, but it has been way too quiet with that many people subscribed. I'm sure that each of you must have joined the list to discuss your Coffee and Atkinson County families and to find new information on them. There have been a number of new subscribers since Christmas and we'd like to welcome you and encourage you to post your Coffee family names. You are also welcome to request look-ups on this list. There are a number of us that have Coffee and Atkinson resources and we're glad to help. I'll begin by posting my family names in hopes of a new connection. Take care, Melody

    2. Eliz Hughes
    3. Tom, Please consider putting the Willcox/Wilcox family mailing list on Rootsweb. I initially put two family groups on something other than them and was very dissatisfied. They even do the promotion for you, putting your new list on multiple search engines, as well as making note of it in the two weekly newsletters that they send to all subscribers. 1. list is back up & other things
    2. Melody
    3. Just wanted to let everyone know that the mailing lists are back up and running. I sent a message to the list Saturday evening from Mom's house, but it hasn't come up so I'll just repeat what I said. We had a successful day in Coffee County transcribing several cemeteries. Four of us started at Deberry Church Cemetery and then went on to Graham Family Cemetery, we surveyed a private black cemetery (no permission to add this to the web site as only their family are buried in it), we then moved on to the Cato cemetery, Fussell Cemetery, we stopped at Oak Grove Cemetery to check out how long it would take us to do it and we ate lunch there, then on to Rocky Creek Church cemetery, and finally to the Hinson or Old Bethel Cemetery. I may have this out of order and Karen can correct me on this. we had a great time and had a lot of fun!! We took a lot of digital pictures for the Coffee County GaGenWeb page, also some still photographs and some video. All in all it was a wonderful day. we hope to plan another trip next month and hope more of you can join us!! we should be posting the cemeteries and the pictures to the web pages this week. I have already posted the Graham Cemetery. It's small with only eight graves in it, and it is abandoned. It's in terrible shape!! Look for an article in the Douglas Enterprise shortly. You can see this cemetery at: http://www.geocities.com/coffee_cnty/grahamcemetery.html If anyone has any info on this family, please let me know. As always, we welcome any and all comments and suggestions!! Thanks, melody

    3. Starting at 8 a.m. PST Friday, February 23, RootsWeb will begin a planned temporary downtime for maintenance of its servers and hosting process. It will limit this downtime as much as possible, and will return with increased performance and reliability for future growth. In the meantime, please take time to visit RootsWeb.com's sister sites -- Ancestry.com and FamilyHistory.com -- where you will find additional tools such as message boards, communities, and databases to help you in the search for your ancestors. Thank you for your patience. --The RootsWeb Staff

    3. Just wanted to remind everyone about the cemetery transcribing that we'll be doing in Coffee County this coming Saturday. So far about 7 people have signed up. Karen is trying to finalize the plans but it looks like we'll be starting with DeBerry Church Cemetery. I know there are a number of people on this list living in Coffee so please come out and join us. We're going to have a great time. DeBerry is the largest cemetery that we'll be doing that day unless we can get more volunteers and then we'll add at least one more larger one. Please e-mail me privately if you would like to come out and be with us!! Melody
