    3. Steve.... could you have the birthdate wrong for James Pinckney Grantham? I have one in my files. The Rebecca is probably Rebecca GRANGER who was the wife of Jesse GRANTHAM. I show James Pinkney, s/o Jesse & Rebecca.... b 11 Oct 1835; married Mary F. WOOTEN. He appears in the 1860-1880 Jefferson Co, FL census and the 1900 Thomas Co, GA census (wife living with son Wm P. 3. Looking for information on Lydia Ophelia HERRIN(G) and/or A. C. 'Acey' AKIN. Lydia was the daughter of Owen and Mary Elizabeth (KING) HERRIN. She married A.C. Acey AKIN on December 28, 1892 in Pierce County. Lydia supposedly died c 1898 when my mother-in-law, Lovie Elizabeth AKIN was about 2 years of age. Lovie was then raised by her maternal grandparents, Owen & Mary Elizabeth HERRIN. For some reason Lydia's marriage record shows her name as HERRING (but I think there was lots of confusion about the spelling of the name - even today). I would love to find out anything concerning her death and/or burial. Albert R. 2. Nancy Parr
    3. Hi Melody and all, I thought I'd respond to your post. Somehow I was unsubbed from many of the lists through Rootsweb and just thought no one was sending emails :-) Glad to be back and hope to be able to share info with others. I'll highlight one of my lines with the following narative. Please take a look and if you are related, I'd be happy to share and compare notes with any of you :-) Regards, Nancy E Parr ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- Joshua Kirkland Joshua Kirkland (son of Richard, grandson of Richard) was born 1803 in Ga. and died about 1880 in Coffee County, Ga. He is buried at Ward Cemetery on Jim Tanner farm. He married (1) Harriet Lee in Bulloch County Ga, daughter of James Lee and Patience Lanier. He married (2) Sarah "Sallie" Fender on Oct 27, 1845 in Madison County, Fl. She was daughter of David Fender and Mary Hire. Joshua came to the Coffee County, Ga. area around 1835. He came with his mother and her second husband, Archibald Miller. When he came to Coffee Co.,Georgia, he left his (first) wife Harriet and their five children in Bulloch County, Ga. I have further info on Joshua and Harriet's children. He married Sarah 'Sallie' Fender in 1940. She was born in 1824, in Barnwell Dist., SC, a daughter of David Fender. They moved to Madison County, Fl around 1845. It is assumed, but not known for certain, that Joshua obtained a divorce from his first wife Harriet Lee. Some family lore has it that he fled to Florida for having illegally killed a slave, although there is no known documentation or veification of that story. His occupation in the 1850 census (Madison Co., Fl) was shown as 'blacksmith'. He later moved back to Georgia after spending about 20 years in Florida. He moved to his old home in what had become Coffee County during his absence. He acquired a farm about 6 miles northeast of Douglas, the county seat, and lived there until his death some time between 1870 and 1880. He is buried in a small cemetery located on the Jim Tanner farm. There is no head stone or marker to identify Joshua's grave or his date of death. His wife Sallie died about 1903 and is buried in Kirkland Cemetery in Coffee County. From Huxford Vol. 7, corrections, pages 491-92: James Lee (father of Herriet Lee-Kirkland) in his Will probated in Bulloch County on September 9, 1840, devised ony $1.00 "to my son-in-law Joshua Kirkland", the reason for this nominal legacy of one dollar was because the law at that time vested a wife's estate or legacy to her husband and Joshua Kirkland had already left his wife and children and came to Coffee County; Joshua and Harriet were not divorced at that time. Harriet Lee Kirkland never married again and died in Bulloch County on June 29, 1869. She was buried in Lower Lott's Creek Cemetery. Joshua and Sallie (second wife) were living in Madison Co., Fl on the 1850 and 1860 censuses. NOTE: The slab over the grave of Sallie Fender Kirkland indicates she was "born 1824, died 1903, Wife of Joshua Kirkland". Joshua and Sarah Kirkland had 8 children known to me: Sarah Kirkland, born 6-5-1841; married Richard Duren William Franklin Kirkland, born 3-11-1847 James Cuyler Kirkland, born 10-28-1849; married Barbara Thigpen Lucretia Kirkland, born 1853; married Joshua Smith Alice Kirkland, born 3-11-1854; married Kyler (spelling) Kirkland Joshua, Jr. born 10-10-1857; married Hester Clesta Lott David Kirkland, born 12-4-1860; married Sarah Sallie Davis Manassa Kirkland, born 4-12-1863, married William Carter I descend through son William Franklin Kirkland who married Sarah Newbern, daughter of Ethelred Dryden Newbern and Elizabeth Sirmans. William Franklin and Sarah were married on 12-24-1865 in Berrien (now Lanier Co.) Ga. They had 14 children including my great grandmother Pearlie Kirkland, born 3-2-1875 and married Matthew Tomlinson, a son of William S Tomlinson and Matilda Giddens. Pearlie and Matthew were married on 1-14-1892 in Clinch Co., Ga and had 11 children including my maternal grandmother, Willie Alice Tomlinson, born 11-7-1892 and she married Charlton Augustus Fiveash, a son of George Appling Fiveash and Elizabeth Lee. Charlton and Alice were married on 7-11-1909 in Clinch Co., Ga and had 13 children, including my mother Dorris Alice Fiveash who was born on 10-3-1932 in Hahira, Lowndes Co., Ga. She and my dad, Richard L Evans were married on 7-22-1950 in Clinch Co, Ga and I was born on 1-2-1952 in CLinch Co., Ga. My dad passed away on 12-31-1995 and was a son of Ivey L Evans and Alma Williams of Clinch Co., Ga.

    3. Looking for spouse and children of Rhoda Grantham born abt 1843, dau of Elijah Grantham b 1808 and Elizabeth Whitley. Or, was she in fact the dau of Elijah Grantham and second wife, Miriah Durham. I belive that when I merged my files that it did not work like I wanted in trying to correct duplicates, I have messed my files up for some families, especially this one of Elijah Grantham b 1808 S.C. and wives Elizabeth Whitley and Mariah Durham. I have the children of Elijah and Elizabeth Whitley as: Sarah b 1826 married John Collins. Jackson b 1830 m Anna Sears Elijah b 1841 Rhoda b 1843 Elizabeth b 1845 m Jesse Carver and had child Minnie Belle Carver. I have a problem with this because there were abt 4 years between the first two children, 10 or 11 years until the next child. What were they doing for 10 years? Thanks, Connie

    3. Hi Melody. I am looking for family information for James Mack Merritt who married Elizabeth Grantham b 1863.(dau of Jackson Grantham and Anna E. Sears. Did James Mack Merritt and Elizabeth have children? Did Elizabeth marry anyone else? Jackson Grantham b 1830 m Anna Sears...I am interested in ALL their children. I have no family info for their son Burrell. And I am very interested in their son John Wesley Grantham who married Mary Jane Vickers. Because I am looking for my ggrandmother, Eliza Grantham born 1862-1868. Her death certificate lists no parents. My elderly relatives say they knew nothing about her family. They say she used to go visit a brother in Irwin or Berrien or Coffee County. They also say that they said that (1) she was adopted and some say (2) her parents were killed by Indians. I don't think that her parents were killed by Indians in 1862-1868? But, she did name her first born son, JOHN WESLEY. That makes me think that perhaps she was related to this family. Thanks, Connie (someone, please help solve this 7 year old mystery!)
