Hi Luan, Long time no talk :-) Great to see a post from you; maybe we can stay in touch more often. To answer your question, I have Leon Kirkland as a son of David Kirkland and Sarah Sallie Davis Kirkland. David Kirkland was born 12-4-1860 Coffee Co and died 8-17-1936 Coffee Co., Ga. David was a son of Joshua Kirkland and Sarah Fender (my g g g grandparents). I have the same dates as your for Leon Kirkland; but I do not have any of the other information on his family. For that, I'm very grateful you submitted your info to the list :-) Again, great to hear from you :-) Hope this answered your question. Can some of you Kirkland researchers connect with these folks: ------------------------------------------------------------------ FUNERAL HELD FOR LEON KIRKLAND, 52 A large crowd gathered at Chatterton Grove Holiness Baptist Church Sunday afternoon for the funeral services of Leon Kirkland, 52, Rt. 2, Broxton. Mr. Kirkland was a widely known, well liked resident in the Broxton Community. Members of the Chatterton Grove Church composed a large choir which sang several songs at the service. The Rev. Henry ________, assisted by the Rev. Stanford Williams were officiating ministers. Survivors include his wife, Lillie Vickers Kirkland; son, Vickers Kirkland, Kirkland, GA; daughter Miss Mary Kirkland, Douglas; four brothers, Dave Kirkland, Frank Kirkland, Will Kirkland, and Warren Kirkland, all of Douglas. Three sisters, Mrs. I. T. Torrance, Douglas, Mrs. Nancy Day, Haynes City, FL, and Mrs. Josephine Kirkland, Jacksonville, FL. Burial was in the church cemetery at Chatterton Grove with Douglas Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Butts, George Butts, John Carver, Edward Day, George Taylor, Herbert Vickers, Jim King, S. F. Jones, Marvin Kirkland, Albert Malcolm, and Claude Douglas. Active pallbearers were Osborn Kirkland, Carl Adams, Willis Kirkland, George Kirkland, David Kirkland, Woodrow Kirkland, Clyde Kirkland, and Jim Kirkland. ---------------------------------------- When I checked the Coffee Co. July 1985 I also found the engagement announcement for Mary Kirkland in the Douglas Enterprise dated Jan. 10, 1957. It stated her full name was Mary DeLanie Kirkland, and that she was the daughter of the late Mr. Leon Kirkland of Broxton. Her marriage was recorded in the Coffee County Marriage Books as April 14, 1957. She married Talmadge E. Arnette, son of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Arnette of Brunswick. Mary Kirkland Arnette was a very close friend of my mother's. Thanks, Luan Harper Brunswick, GA lyh@gate.net
Nancy, will you please help me with the family of James Carver and Sarah Ricketson? I have their children as Vincent Ricketson b 1836 and then the rest of the children have surname of Carver: Mahulda b 1838, Jesse, Boyce Ann b Feb 23, 1841, Eliza b Apr 8, 1842, Martha, Mary, Mariah, Allen b Apr 4 1845, Matilda, James Jefferson, Delilah, Sarah, and Josiah. Do I have two families confused here? All of James Carver's children's surnames should be Carver. Where does Vincent Ricketson come from? Thanks, Connie
After the death of David Sears first wife Levicey in early 1868 he married Lavinia Stone in June 1868 and she was his wife until his death in 1870. There was no issue from this marriage. Lavinia made an application for a Federal Pension as a widow of an Indian War Veteran in the 1890s. In this application she stated they were married 6/8/68 and that David Sears died on 11/30/70. It was witnessed by Hiram Sears and Hiram Sears Jr..
