Hi Jewel, Francis Marion Smith is my G-grandfather. He is the son of Jacob Smith and Leah Barringer/Smith. He was born in Cabarrus Co.,NC. Marian Smith Thank You,Dick & Marian
Dick and Marian, Lourice and I both searched for an obit for Francis Marion Smith. We couldn't find one. However, if you don't need the obit for children and siblings and parents, then, in my opinion, we found something even better. Very touching..... Take care, Melody Here it is: . In Memory of Mr.Francis Marion Smith My husband, Francis Marion Smith died November 2nd, 1926 after an illness of over 5 weeks of Bronchial pneumonia and old age. He was a confederate soldier. He remembered four wars. He was a member of the M. E. church South. An active worker in the church, being a superintendent of S. S. for a period of about 85 years. he died at the advanced age of ninety one years, eleven months and five days.He would have been 92 years old 28th of November. I had a husband good and true, about the age of ninety two. at Lone Hill curch his body sleeps For him I cannot help but weep. I hope to meet him some glad day, where God shall wipe all tears away. In that eternal home above, Where all is joy and peace and love In that bright home. Sorry about that. ~~~~~~~~~ Lourice No big deal. We'll correct it!! But which one is which? I need to know about the obit you sent. I'll send the whole thing, so I'll be sure we're talking about the same one......... My g-g-grandfather. This even addresses Hardy as a Senior, so where is the Jr.? The Douglas Enterprise ... June 2, 1922 UNCLE HARDY JOINER, 82, DIED SUNDAY Mr. Hardy Joiner, Sr., died at the home of his son, Gaines Joiner, last Sunday morning, and was buried at the Harrell Grave Yard Tuesday morning. Mr. Joiner was 82 years of age last February. He leaves his wife, Janie, who was a Miss Harrell before her marriage. Also three children, Gaines, and Bettie, who married Frank Spivey and then Sellears Hersey, and Asa Joiner. He has two brothers, Bob and Thomas, the latter lives in Dodge county, Ga.. Mr. Joiner was a good soldier and went to the war from Coffee county in Company "C" 50th Georgia. He served all through the war and drew a pension for many years before his death. He was a member of the Baptist church at Harrell Grove. Many of his kin people and friends attended the funeral. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Dan Fales his pastor. Mr. Joiner was a hardworking, honest, good man. He was one of the Pioneers and helped to make Coffee county what it is. The old soldiers are dropping out rapidly, and soon the last Confederate soldier will be gone. The world will never see their like anymore. A Father in Israel has fallen, Another old soldier has "crossed over the river and is resting under the shade of the trees". Let us honor their memory and emulate the good in their lives. W. P. SOURCE: Personal research. Old newspapers on microfilm. Satilla Regional Library, Genealogy Dept., Douglas, Coffee Co., GA. Tuesday, November 16, 2004. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You see that it says his son Gaines...........I don't even have a Henry Joiner in my files, so I need clarification. I've gotta go sit with my sister today. She had surgery yesterday, so I'll be away, but I'll get to this as soon as possible. Loev Always Sherry
