Surnames: Smith, Parker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ic.2ADE/1056.2 Message Board Post: Although I don't have an obituary for you, I just ran across an interesting newspaper article about Francis Marion Smith. From your previous postings I believe he 1st married Susan L. Hedick and 2nd married Emma Puella Carelock. He was from Cabarrus County, North Carolina (was there in 1850 and 1860) and lived in Union Co, NC (was there on 1870 and 1880 census') before moving to Coffee County, Georgia. I'm not related to this family and have no further info, just thought you might find it interesting. Tuesday, August 7, 1923, The Monroe Journal, (Union County, NC) -Mrs. J. J. SMITH and son, F. T. SMITH of Lanes Creek township, and V. B. PARKER of Marshville township, and C. C. SMITH of Kannapolis, returned Friday night from Georgia, where they visited relatives in Coffee county. They found Mr. F. M. SMITH, father of J. J. and C. C. SMITH, well and in good spirits. He will be 89 years of age in November, and is still enabled to do farm work.
Hey Clyde, I'm doing some research for one of the descendants, who comes through Shafter's daughter, Nancy Faye Meeks. The granddaughter-in-law gave the name as Shafter Merritt meeks. In the cemetery book, he's listed as Shafter M. and I pulled his obit a few minutes ago but it just listed him as Shafter Meeks, Sr. with widow Jessie Wheeler Meeks. I have his dates as being born Jan 16, 1898 and death date Dec. 4, 1970., listed in obit as son of Frank and Linnie Durrin Meeks. The only thing I have on Jessie is that she was born June 9, 1905, with parents POSSIBLY being Walter N. Wheeler and Nancy Alexander. Hope you can help, Thanks, Melody -----Original Message----- From: Clyde Hooks [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, February 11, 2005 9:17 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GACOFFEE] Shafter Merritt Meeks > She was born June 9, 1905, and is the daughter of Walter N. and Nancy > (Alexander) Wheeler.
