I have a mystery: Manning Austin DAY married Sarah Elizabeth MCCLURE, at least I THINK it was MCCLURE. In the Family bible it says they were married Jan.17, 1860 in Woodstock, Cherokee County. Sarah was from Acworth, and Manning Austin from Cherokee County. Researchers doing look-ups for me in Cherokee county have found NO marriage record for Manning Austin, yet they are both on the 1860 census together in Cherokee County. While their first son, Jack, was born Dec.6, 1860 in Acworth. BTW- Jack died in 1868, so he is not on any 1870 census. I can't even find Manning Austin on the 1870!!!! Anyway, if they got married in Jan.1860, the census data and birthdate fit. Could they have been married in Acworth, Cobb County? Someone told me that marriage licenses were often in the bride's county. Could someone check records there for me please? I am in North Carolina. (We have red clay here, too!) Thanks very much for any help you can offer! Sincerely, Deborah Day Olsen
