He married Elizabeth Mahaffey 17 Jan 1839 in Newton County. He may be listed as Baley on William Rice's will of 1849. From 1840-1843 they had three children born in Georgia. After 1850 Baily disappears until 1862 when he petittions to get his son Thomas J. Rice's back pay. The petition is signed by a John B(ailey?) Rice. Thomas died as a prisioner at Camp Douglas, Illinois after he and two of his brothers were captured at Fort Donnelson as part of Co. G 14th Mississippi. 1860 John W. Rice, one of his sons, is in Winston, Mississippi. The two youngest sons are living with other families in Cherokee County, Alabama. I can't find Bailey in any other records. I am just trying to find if they lived a time in Cobb County, or if they had relatives who had. Another good samaritain (Named Linda) wrote: The "First Hundred Years" book states that Arthur and William Rice drew lottery land in Cobb early on, but of course, the county was Cherokee territory in the 1820s and early 30s. I don't find them enumerated here in the 1850 census and find no marriage record nor burial listing for Bailey in the Cobb cemeteries books. Thank you both!!!
