Melissa had an older brother Thomas that may be your Thomas (Kirk wasn't that common a name and most in the area seem to have been related). Melissa and Thomas's father was a John Kirk from NC. He was married twice (Melissa and Tom are from the first wife--Mary Rives), and the Kirk family eventually settled on the west side of Kennesaw Mtn.

    3. The GA Death Index shows that a Frances A. Cobb died in Cobb County in 1919. From census records, it appears that she was not the one you need. She was a black female, wife of Elijah Cobb, and born in GA about 1839. Another Frances Cobb died in Cobb County in the 90s, but I can't determine the name of the husband of that one. What else do you know about this couple? Race? Approximate years of birth? When did they live in Cobb County? Where did they live when they died? My ggg-grandfather died sometime between 1860-1870. Apparently from the war. I found Sarah and Melissa Kirk as a boarder in 1880, Atlanta Ga and that is the last i have been able to go back. Most of my family is from Roswell, GA. If you can shed some light on what happened to them and possible where Sarah is buried? Any information will be appreciated, Thanks. klillie@yatesins.com

    3. Terry, The only Ebenezer Cemetery I find listed in Cobb County is this one: From Cobb County, Georgia, Cemeteries, Volume I EBENEZER CEMETERY - Located in Land Lot 493, District 19, on Canton Highway, north of Piedmont Road. Reported to be a black cemetery. Several broken markers with parts of names and dates are located here. Many graves marked with fieldstones. There are no Mauldin burials listed in this cemetery, and no James or Elmire Mauldin markers indexed in either volume I or II of the Cobb Cemeteries books. Sorry not to be able to help. Hopefully someone else on the list can offer more. 2. Wally McCollum
    3. I sent the following response to your durect e-mail address and am posting it to the board: I found the following George Gunnin in the Georgia Death Index. He is the brother of a Walter Lee Gunnin who registered for the WWI draft while living in Kennesaw, Cobb County, Georgia in 1918. Walter was born October 17, 1896 and was single in 1918. In 1910 the family consisted of Nathan and Martha Gunnin and their children: Nathan Jr (age 21), John F (age 18), Thomas J (age 15), Walter L (age 13), George W (age 11), Dock C (age 9) and Earnest(age 5). matha reported she had a total of 8 chldren all of whom were living and there was a James T. Gunnin, age 23, living next door. The 1920 census of the Gritter area of Cobb County shows Walter to be divorced and living with his parents. In 1930 the widow Martha Jane Gunnin was living in Cherokee County, Georgia with her son Earnest and twin granddaughters Mildred and Meldrid in the household. Walter L. Gunnin and his wife Florence were livng in the Waterloo district of Laurens County, South Carolina on a farm on Ware Shoals road. They had been married 10 years. I believe this must be your Candace, because Walter's brother-in-law, 15 year old George Woody, was in the household. Florence was 34 in 1930. Let me know if I should dig any deeper on this. Name: George W Gunnin Death Date: 03 Nov 1949 County of Death: DeKalb Gender: M Race: W Age: 50 years County of Residence: DeKalb Certificate: 23736 You can order the death certificate from Gerogia's vital statistics offce and it will tell you both the cause of death and the names of his parents. ----- Original Message ----- From: <kelmoe@verizon.net> To: <GACOBB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2005 2:15 PM Subject: [GACOBB] Gunnin/Gunnian/Gunning? > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Gunnin/Woody > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hc.2ADE/747 > > Message Board Post: > > Hi, I am looking for any information on a Walter Gunnin that m. my great > aunt Candace Woody dau. of William and Lucinda Woody in Cobb County, > Georgia.
