Have you tried http://www.findagrave.com/ I looked and there is a Wm. Wells buried in Marietta National Cemetery: Wells, Wm b. unknown d. Aug. 12, 1864 Marietta National Cemeter... Marietta Cobb County Georgia, USA I just received the probate records for William Swan Wells "W.S." and it indicated that all the land he owned was in Acworth (including plots with 130 acres, some with houses) except for one plot in Cherokee County. Since the 'family tale' is that he was murdered by released POW at the end of the Civil War, I am assuming he would have been buried close. He was supposed to be working on the barn when he was killed. I am not positive, but his son Charles was also died in 1865 ... so he may have been with him. I need help checking out cemeteries in the Acworth area that were active in 1865. I saw the cemetery books on the Cobb Co. Genealogical Society but they do not indicate where the cemeteries are located ... and the page I looked at did not even mention Acworth. I lived near Sprayberry High School in 1970s and early 1980s ... worked for GA Power and graduated from GA State Univ. If I had only known this then ... :o) Never fails. Bonita, There are several old cemeteries in Acworth, but the most prominent one is probably Liberty Hill. I checked the Cobb Cemeteries books, but don't find your Wells family listed anywhere in Cobb. Doesn't mean they aren't buried in one of the Acworth or nearby cemeteries, but simply that they don't have markers. Here are some other Wells burials. Not yours, necessarily, but may connect later on. From Temple's First Hundred Years: Willeo Cemetery, (on Middle Roswell Road, not Acworth, in 1935 when the book was first published): Walter Wells - Mar 3, 1874 - July 16, 1875 W. Wells - no dates Mt. Beulah Cemetery (also not Acworth) Mary H., wife of TA Wells - May 28, 1853 - July 23, 1886 Oscar, son of JH and MA Wells - August 1 - September 18, 1875 William W. Wells - January 18, 1822 - April 11, 1889 Mary M., wife of William W. Wells - June 25, 1830 - April 5, 1896 Concord Baptist Cemetery (near Smyrna, not near Acworth) Arrena May, dau of JH and MA Wells - July 21 - September 7, 1878 I have several volumes of Cobb County death notices, but right offhand I can't recall if they begin as early as 1865 (I doubt it). When I have a minute, I will check, and if I find anything about the Acworth Wells families, I will be happy to pass it along. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Williams Coleman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hc.2ADE/173.1 Message Board Post: We are attempting to locate any descendents of our great-grandfather’s two brothers John (or Johnnie) and Alonzo Williams. The story handed down from our parents and grandparents is that Emmit (or Emit or Emmitt) and his brother Alonzo set off from Stone Mountain Georgia in the late 1870’s for Texas. The story has it that Emmit got as far as the Tyro/Harmontown area in Lafayette County, MS where he met and fell in love with his wife-to-be and that Alonzo went on to Texas. We know that Emit Reynolds Williams (1853-1917) married Sarah Frances “Fannie” Rayborn (1858-1921) in 1878 and that the couple had seven children who are listed below. We are not sure but we have been told that Emit’s father was John Williams. The 1870 Census for Jackson County Georgia list a household consisting of Allen Colman age 85 born in SC, Ann Coleman age 85 born in SC, Mary Williams age 40 born in SC, Emmit Williams age 15 born in GA, Alonzo Williams age 14 born in GA and John Williams age 10 born in GA. The 1880 Census for Lafayette County Mississippi list a household consisting of Emit Williams Age 26 born in GA, wife Fannie Williams age 21 born in MS, brother Johnnie Williams age 18 born in GA and Columbus Williams age six months born in MS but no mention of Alonzo. In 1937 when he was age 10 John Cully Williams, a grandson of Emit Reynolds, traveled with his father John Thurber and his uncle Christopher Columbus to visit an “Uncle John and Aunt Annie” in Gainesville GA. John Cully now age 78 remembers Uncle John as being an “old man”, he also recalls that he spoke to him years later by phone, maybe in the 1970s or 80s. Emit Reynolds Williams (1853-1917) married (Nov 7, 1878) Sarah Frances Rayborn (1858-1921) and had the following Children: Christopher Columbus Williams (1880-1955) Pearl Williams (1881- ??) John Thurber Williams (1883-1952)family Maggie Williams (1888-1896) Lillian Mae Williams (1890-1972) Willie Lester "L.W." Williams (1892-1958) Alonzo Allen "Lonnie" Williams (1896-1956) Does any of this connect with anything in your Williams family? Best Regards, John Williams jwilliams@memphisgrp.com
I am seeking information on a William Swan Wells who was born 1811 in CT and died about 30 May 1865 ... possibly in Cobb County, GA ... Marietta. We just recently found through probate records in TN that he owned land in Marietta. He was supposedly murdered by rebels who had just been released as he was on his land. Since we have never been able to find anything re: his land, burial, death in Memphis, Shelby Co., TN ... maybe he was on his land in Marietta. Any help would be appreciated. We are specifically looking for siblings and parents ... thinking the land may have been part of an inheritance since we have never known him to be in GA. He married a Susan Adeline Reinhardt in North Carolina. Bonita \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo-(_)-oOOo---- Just Looking ... Lady Bonita Arizona, USA

The old school, elementary and junior high, including the new annex that was built in 1964 are no longer there. The old building were torn down last summer to make way for a new school. Send me your email addy and I can scan a photo of the elementary building to you. Include in the email what year you were in 1st grade and I'll see if my brother in law has an annual for that year, he went there till high school at South Cobb, he has most all of the annuals.
