    3. Hello everyone, I am new to the Georgia/Cobb list and would like to post my question regarding the following: Ethel K. Slaving, died July 8, 1974, Cobb County, 98 years old - she was born in England, and came to Connecticut as a young child in 1886. I believe her maiden name was Wilkins. If anyone can access a copy of an obituary and provide any other information about Ethel Slaving, I would appreciate it. Thank you so much, Elizabeth BC, Canada

Raymond Landerfelt, 81, left us in body but not in spirit. He loved life, people, children, his wife of 56 years, his family and friends. We will miss you, Dad, but our loss is surely heaven's gain. Raymond played semi-pro baseball after serving in WWII with the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific. He was known by many names - Ray, Landy, Chief and Brother. His favorite names, however, were Daddy and Pop-Pop. He was the best man we've ever known _ our hero. His laughter was contagious, his attitude always inspiring and his tender love warm and constant. If you had the privilege to know him, consider yourself rich. God made him and threw away the mold. Thank you, Lord, that we knew him as Dad. He is survived by his wife, Allene Gravitt Landerfelt; daughter Pam Landerfelt; two sons, Gary Landerfelt and wife Patti and Ron Landerfelt; brother Charles Landerfelt, Sr. and wife Jennie; two b! rother in laws, Jerry R. Gravitt and wife Betty and Jim Gravitt and wife Patty; two granddaughters, Melanie and Sarah; and nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 1925 Century Blvd. N.E. Ste. 10 Atlanta, GA 30345-3315. Although Rachel reported she was a widow in 1900, it seems that her husband may have left her and remarried. Supporting this conclusion is the fact that Elisha L. Knight married Lillie Anna Reeves in Etowah County, Alabama on March 4, 1900 (note the Reeves in Elisha's household in earlier censuses). Also, you may be able to confirm Elisha's parents by checking his death certificate. He died June 1 1914 in Cullman County. Elisha L died June 3, 1954 in Walker County, Alabama.

    3. Terry is right. A death certificate should give you what you need to move past the hurdles. I noticed that there's an Alexander Copeland family living on the page following Mary and James Teague in 1900 Dekalb County, and I suspect a connection, simply because they lived so near. I would suspect also that Sarah was staying with her sister Mary to help take care of the new baby and that it was perhaps not a permanent situation. Who did Sarah Hannah marry? What were the names of her children? It might be that she named a child for one of her parents - or one of her siblings - and you might be able to get a handle on her Copeland family through customary naming patterns. ----- Original Message ----- From: Terry Jackson To: GACOBB-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, November 03, 2005 9:38 PM Subject: Re: [GACOBB] seeking info - COPELAND Have you checked for a death record? According to most and census she was born about 1880 give or take 3 to four years. Bad time to be born for research purposes!!!! The earliest I can find her is living in Alabama with her sister Mary born about 1874. who is married to a James R. Teague ( born Union county Ga.). Living with them is listed as sister in law Sarah H. Copeland age abt 16. This is 1900 Census DeKalb Alabama. This couple William and Sarah Copeland in Marietta just about fit the bill as far as the girls go. Or do you think I'm streaching to far? I was thinking since Sarah Teal you say was born in Alabama according to Census, that maybe One or both Wiiliam and Sarah died and the girls went to live with family in Alabama by 1900. I can NOT find one shered of anything on Sarah prior to 1900. And, naturally with out knowing the parents can't narrow Mary down. 3. Not having much luck here, either. The Cobb marriage book says that William Copeland's wife was Sarah Teal, but I don't find a record that any of their children married in Cobb. They may have moved out of the county prior to the 1900 census. The 1870 Cobb census gives: 1870 Cobb County, Georgia - Marietta District - PO Marietta - August 4, 1870 - page 282 1213 - Copling, William J., age 26; drives wagon; born GA Sarah, age 27; keeping house; born GA Adeline, age 1; born GA and 1860: 1860 Cobb County, Georgia - Town District - PO Marietta - June 18, 1860 - page 266 317 - Reubin Copeland, age 58; farmer; $300/100; born GA Lucinda, age 38; born SC T. H. H., age 17, male; farm labor; born GA WILLIAM, age 16; farm labor; born GA Solomon, age 14; born GA Elizabeth, age 11; born GA Elizabeth Guff, age 80; born SC There's a William Copeland shown enumerated in 1900 and 1910 Marietta who is a bit older than the one above; shown as a widower in 1900 and married a second time for 5 years in 1910. That one was a brick mason, but no way of knowing if it's the same fellow. The 1900 census for the section of Cobb County where they were living in 1880 and earlier is so faded that I am not able to read it. It is certainly possible that they were there and enumerated, but not indexed. I also don't find any of these folks with marked graves in the Cobb Cemeteries books and no mention of them in any of my death notice collections. Sorry to be of so little help.
