I am searching for any information I can find on Thomas Lawson SPEER (2-14-1813,12-12-1882) and Mary ADAMS JOHNSON SPEER(10-1-1829,7-8-1895). Those dates come from the book, Gwinnett County, Gerogia Deaths 1818-1989. They had at least one child, Roger Lawson SPEER (9-15-1858,death date unk), and possibly Georgia b. 1853, Lillian b. 1861, James b. 1864, and Robert Emmett (1-15-1867,8-11-1901). Roger married Mattie(Martha? Mary? Matilda? Margaret?) RUTLEDGE in Gwinnett county on 9-16-1884. They had two children Roger L jr and William Dixon . Both born in Norcross. Can anyone help me with any more information on this family? Roger L Speer Sr is on the 1900 census in Atlanta, with his two sons, listed as a widower. Thanks for any help you can give me. Paul W Speer
Hi list, Time to re-post! Am looking for MYERS family in Savannah (1860census) and Cobb Co. (1850) esp for my Octavius C. MYERS b 1837; also sibs Henry b 1822; Frederick b 1832; Annabella b 1831; Josephine b 1835; Robert b 1838; Frank b 1842; Etta b 1844. The mother of this brood seems to be either S. Henrietta MYERS or Henrietta S. MYERS (still don't know maiden name.) b 1799 as her age is given as 51 in 1850 census. Head of household, strangely, is listed as an M. MYERS age 36, both he and Henrietta (they cant' be husband and wife?!) are listed as born in SC, and I think that was Georgetown Co. from other sources. Any links? As a new member of this list I thought I had better list my surname if I was going to get any informationl I am researching the COFER family from Crisp Co and Cobb Co. I am interested in any information regarding the Combs family. My g-g-g-grandparents, Phillip and Susanah Combs, appear on the Cobb County Census of 1850 in the Powder Springs District with their children, Bengamin, Mark, John, Eliza B., and Thomas J. Also in the household are Nancy Clay and Mary Clay. Furthermore, in the Marietta District can be found Francis H. Combs and Virginia, Alla, and Mary C. Combs in the household of Mildred Waterman. I believe that some of these people or their relatives may be buried in either the Clay family cemetery or the Combee family cemetery (both in Volume I). Would someone be so kind as to check for me? (Anything else on these families would also be highly appreciated.) Thank you. Susan Combs Hefner researching Combs, House, Clay [email protected]
Hope this might be of interest to some of you. It's mostly misc stuff I ran across in the library by accident. In the book, History of the Old Cheraws by The Right Rev. The had taken parol, however, and for no other offence, were seized by the Whigs on both sides of the line and hung. Such a course was well calculated to excite a feling of bloody retaliation, and thus the murderous conflict continued." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Extracts from a letter of Miss Elizabeth Zimmerman to the Secretary of the Pee Dee Historical Society... Just wanted to let any of you that might be researching any Pierce's in Georgia know that the Pierce Project for the Southern States that is currently online at http://www.southerngen.freeservers.com/ is moving to Rootsweb. The new URL is http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pierces/ (Note all of the information is left intact at the old website, and the new website has all of Alabama info up and running (what info I currently have). I am transitioning the other 5 states data as I have time to change links, etc. If you are not familiar with "The Pierce Project (TM)" and want to know more about "The Pierce Project (TM), please go to http://members.aol.com/rootshuntr/Pierce/teams.html -or you will find alot of information on my southern states pages at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pierces/newspage.html . If you are studying Pierce Genealogy & all variant spellings, then we are certainly the place to look for this information. Good luck in your searches and "Happy Pickin' and Holidays From The Southern States". Brenda Pierce
I am a descendant of Almeda Polk Mable, the second wife of Robert Mable of Mableton. I am descended from Caroline Hodge, her daughter from a previous marriage. I know that Almeda is buried in the Mable family cemetery at the Mable house which is now owned by the South Cobb Arts Alliance. Caroline is buried in Bellingham, Washington. Almeda is descended from Richard Pace, one of the Ancient Planters from the Jamestown settlement. I would appreciate any information you have on Almeda or Caroline. Thank you.
I don't know which list I got this from, but it was very interesting. Even though I didn't find anything of use to me, I thought the list would enjoy looking, & may find something of interest. It has some Bibles, picture postcards, photos, slave schedules, photos, letters, etc. The site helps to find original memorabilia. There is a listing of items available, & you can post items you're looking for. You MUST look!!! YOUR PAST CONNECTIONS http://www.pastconnect.com Also, another favorite site is: http://www.familychronicle.com/ Click on: Top Genealogy Web Sites. Many, many wonderful sites to search, especially if your pc is the only research tool you have. Good luck, Bettie WOOD <><
I think I may have a mystery (brick-wall) solved. I would like to get some of the lists expert opinions, advice, etc. I have been trying to figure out why I can't find Thomas RHOADES. I was told he married Martha LINDSEY. From the 1860 Cobb Co., GA census, I found my Thomas (48yrs. old-b. abt. 1812). Under his name is Martha's who is 17, under her name is J.A. (James 20 yrs.-b. abt. 1840), N.J. (Newt b. abt.1845), Sarah (b. abt. 1846), & J.T. (Jesse-b. abt. 1848). Jesse married & had a daughter named Martha Ann. I found a marriage for Thomas RHOADES to Ann LINDLEY in 1837. In my brain, I'm thinking that Martha that is 17 on 1860 census (above) is Thomas' 2nd wife, & probably not a LINDSEY at all. I've been saying she's a sister. Isn't the normal thing on a census to list wife under head's name & then children? Does it sound like a probability about Martha & Ann, etc.? Does any of this make sense? Bettie WOOD <>< PS I found an 1880 census with Thomas & Martha. It says Martha is his wife. Thomas is 20 yrs. older, & Martha is 17 yrs. older. They're still in GA, but Cherokee Co. & have 4 children: John (15-GA), Delilah (13-GA), Green (9?-GA), & Samuel (3-GA).

Hello: Would you please look in your Cobb Co GA Deed Book and see if it includes any information on Battle Mayfield (born 1778) or Giles F. Mayfield. They were on the 1850 census in Cobb Co. Giles was listed with his wife Lucretia and their children. Battle, who I beleive is Giles' father, living next door or near by. Thank you for any info you might share, Colleen Sudduth Musulin [email protected]

Do your books make mention of Thomas W. COBB and wife Mary? Any ancestry or descendancy listed. Birth or death dates? Cobb Co., GA. Marietta, the county seat, was created by the Georgia Legislature on December 19, 1834. The town may have gotten its name from Mary Cobb, the wife of Senator Thomas W.Cobb, whom the county was named.
