Who knows the following folks in GA? (There are WAY too many SMITHS in Cobb and surrounding for me to make determination from census line by lines here-I tried yesterday at the National Archives and only became frustrated!) Unknown SMITH (prob b ca 1840s) married Georgia Ann HICKS (b 1848/Cobb Co GA) in GA. Georgia Ann HICKS was the daughter of Starling A and Mary A/Polly HICKS of Cobb Co GA. I know she was still living and a SMITH ca early 1880s as she is named in her grandfather HICKS probate matter. Am seeking more info on the ancestry of these HICKS of GA. Where did Georgia Ann HICKS SMITH and her husband and family go after ca 1870s? April [email protected]
Do you have a listing of any Medlins or Rains' in or around Powder Springs in early to mid 1800s? We have family George W. Rains and Benjamin Medlin. We understand George is buried along side his spouse around Powder Springs. Also, Benjamin Medlin, who was sent to the Civil War but instead his son substituted for him. Can you please tell me how to obtain Civil War information, i.e. payment slips, etc? Thank you in advance. Sue K
Just received death certificates for my great grandparents, ROBERT JONES and KATTIE JAMES whose names I never knew before. Would someone please be kind enough to look for a 1880 census for this couple? Only one known child at this time....George Franklin Jones, would be age 4 as he was born in 1876. I need the full information as to age and state of birth for all listed on the original census report. Best regards, Jane Ashley Benson

Hi, My name is Donald E. Barker Sr. and my E-Mail is [email protected] . My query is as follows: Looking for birth, death, or any other information on Stokes G. Westbrook in Cobb County, GA around April 1855. They had six children: James Alonzo Barker b about 1856, Mary Barker b about 1857 d during the Civil War period about 1864, George W. Barker, b about 1860 also died during the Civil War period in Cobb County, GA, Samuel N. Barker listed in the 1880 census as being 18 years old. Hi, everyone -- I'd appreciate it if someone could check for a couple of deaths/graves for me. I am looking for William Vaughan, b. Nov 14, 1783, d. May 11, 1856 in Cobb County, GA. I am also looking for his wife, Hannah House Vaughan, b. Sep 26, 1797, d. Oct 1, 1870 in Cobb County, GA. If anyone could find their graves or record of their deaths I would appreciate it. I'd also appreciate it if someone could locate Hannah House Vaughan in the 1860 census -- it is my understanding she stayed in Cobb County after the death of her husband in 1856. Thanks a lot! I'm trying to find where the Confederate soldiers who died at the Battle of Kennesaw Mt. are buried. I'm looking for Hardeman Owen Collier who died 20 June 1864. I'm out of state, could someone look this up for me? I can't get anyone to return my phone calls at the Kennesaw Mt. battlefield and it's an automated phone system so you can't actually "talk" to anyone. Thanks, Meredith
I would be very grateful indeed if someone who has access to old newspapers could locate an obituary for Willie Eugene "Gene" Ashley who passed away on June 11, 1996. He died at Southwest Christian Hospice, Union City, Georgia and his funeral service was held there. Although I was there at the time, the obit had not yet been published in the paper and I did not get one. Although I would like to have the actual clipping from the paper, all that is necessary is that I see what was written in the obit. This was my brother and I have always regretted that I was not able to get a copy of the paper for that day.

Jones, abt 1837; Rebecca C. Jones, abt 1839; Nancy Jones, abt 1841; Martha M. Jones, abt 1844; Matilda C. Jones, abt 1846. It is not known who the parents of Hartwell Jones were nor the dates and place of birth & death. It is known that he was in Atlanta, GA by the time of Mary's death in 1847 but where she is buried is not known at the present. Sometime after 1850, Hartwell Jones married again to Janie Elizabeth (last name unknown) and had 4 children: Harriet Jones, Johnny Jones, Ella Jones and Ida Jones. NO dates or spouses known at present. Hartwell Jones' wife, Mary Stribling's brother, Thomas Majors Stribling also married a Jones family member but it is not known how the two Jones families were related. Thomas Major Stribling's wife, also named Mary 5/3/1813 - 11/9/1867, was the daughter of Jabez Jones & Mary "Polly" Yowell. I am trying to determine who the parents were of both Hartwell Jones and Jabez Jones and also trying to locate any descendents of Hartwell Jones & Mary "Polly" Sloan Stribling Jones. If you are related to, or have any knowledge of, this family would you please contact me. Also I would like to know where in Atlanta (or Cobb County) would be the best places to look for records pertaining to Hartwell & Mary other than the Archives. Any and all information welcomed and if you are related to this family please let me know.

According to an IGI citation: HICKS, John W married WRIGHT, Emma E Cobb Co GA/3-6-1866 I believe this John HICKS to have been the youngest son of Henry L HICKS and Louvica surname unknown, b ca 1837/GA. I believe it is this couple who show up in the Cobb Co census/1870 next door to the elder HICKS HH as "John W and Emily" with 2 children, Henry age 3, and Kate age 1. Does anyone know who the parents of Emma E WRIGHT were? Also, still looking for clues to the ancestry of Henry L HICKS and Louvica (b ca 1802/VA or SC and 1798/SC, respectively). Believe the Henry HICKS family was in the Kershaw Co SC census/1830, then in Cobb Co GA ca 1835 on. Henry and Louvica and their son Robert and his family are buried in the Willeo Baptist cemetery, Cobb Co. Another son, Acel R HICKS and his wife Mary BARNWELL/BORNWELL went to DeKalb Co AL ca 1865, but John W did not go there. Where did John W and Emily HICKS go after the 1870 Cobb Co census? Thanks for checking! April [email protected]
