Dear List members, I am new to genealogy searching and new to this list. I am looking for help concerning my ggrandfather William Agustus CRAWFORD m. Almira THOMPSON in Troup, TX don't know year. It has been reported to me by a cousin that William Agustus CRAWFORD was born in Marietta, GA either 8 Aug 1854 or 8 Aug 1858. Were birth records kept in Marietta or Cobb County in those years? Does anyone know of a listing of births in Marietta or Cobb County that can be accessed by internet? If not, could someone do a lookup for me to confirm one of these dates of birth? I would appreciate any help anyone can give. Thank you , Beverly Cowan

Dear List - Mary Frances Golden was, according to the 1900, 1910, and 1920 censuses, born in GA; her father born in Georgia, mother born in AL. Her death certificate gives her birthdate as 28 Jun 1866, and that agrees, as to the year, with all these census records. She was married to James A. Maddux in Cherokee Co., AL, on 5 Oct 1882. She was white. I have examined all the 1870 census records of GA for white Golden men born in GA, hoping to find her listed with her parents. I did find one match, a Mary F. Golden, aged 4, living in Marietta with Henry Golden, 74; Mary J. Golden, 22; Elvira Golden, 6; Martha F. Golden, 4; and Georgia Golden, 1. This census doesn't say how folks are related to one another, but Martha F. looks like Mary F.'s twin sister. Mary J. might be her mother, and Henry a grandfather or great grandfather. The only thing apparently wrong with the match is that this Mary J. Golden was born in GA, whereas the mother of my Mary Frances was born in AL. Unfortunately, none of these people are listed in the 1880 Soundex for either GA or AL. Does this Marietta family headed by Henry Golden in the 1870 census seem familiar to any of you? Rick Sherman, Kensington, CA

This is called "grasping for straws". I am trying to locate my g g grandmother's maiden name. Catherine married Lorenzy Kemp Burrow, and they lived in Ripley Co. Missouri and Randolph County, Arkansas where she died in 1862 at about age 32. Lorenzy made several land transactions with a Joshua Parmer in Ripley Co. and Randolph Co , which leads me to believe her name may have been Parmer, and she may have been a sister to Joshua. Joshua Parmer had a daughter Matilda Augustine who married James Benjamin Roach in 1876 in Randolph Co. Catherine was born in South Carolina, according to 1860 census in Randolph Co. I find a Joshua Parmer in Cobb County, Georgia, also the name Kemp and Roach. I'm thinking Kemp could have been Catherine's mother's maiden name. Does any of this information ring any bells?
