From Cobb County, Georgia, Cemeteries - Volume II: PONDER FAMILY CEMETERY Location - corner of East Piedmont Road and Scott Drive, Marietta. "This cemetery was listed in Vol. I, Section I, as 'having several burials identified with markers but all that remains are broken illegible pieces'. There are four graves, two with inscriptions and two without. One marker was found buried under several inches of dirt and another in the Property Room of the Cobb County Police Department. The third grave was identified by a descendant and the fourth is unknown. Harry Foster picked up the marker from the Police Department and replaced it in the cemetery." 43039 - Ponder, Adline - October 11, 1863 - August 17, 1890 43040 - Ponder, John H. - October 24, 1819 - January 7, 1903 43041 - Ponder, Thomas - no inscriptions Note - the "First Hundred Years" book shows only Adline and John inscriptions. Would you possibly be able to check the Marietta paper? I don't even know its title. Thank you so much for asking about this. Karla

In the bottom of the box were two Memoriam Records, one, for a Nora Castlen Meier, who died July 21, 1959 and the second, for her husband, Geo. Henry Meier, Sr., who died October 20, 1960. Apparently, the music belonged to their son, George H. Meier. One of the daughters of the deceased couple was a Mrs. Stallings, who may have remarried. Most significant was the fact that a 15-page essay of family memories was also in the box. This text was very fragile and had the words, "This came from Uncle Hal." (recipes, etc.) If anyone is interested in these pieces of memorabilia, my daughter and my granddaughter would be most grateful if you would call them. They will make sure you get the items free of charge. This was a good experience for my 9-year old granddaughter who is absolutely mystified that she could touch something so old and that someone would have thrown it away........maybe she'll be the one in my family to become interested in genealogy. Please write me and I shall tell you how to contact my daughter who has the memorabilia. Shirley Farone twigs@bright.net

Hello Linda in Marietta, Awhile back you looked up Harris Hutchins for me. According to the cenuses you mentioned, he was living in Cobb county. Also, I have his marriage record for Cobb co. His wife is Susannah. There were quite a few children too. I think Harris passed away in 1880's..not sure of exact year. Anyway, you did not see him listed in your cemetary books. My question is: If he is not buried in Cobb co., do you have any other HUTCHINS buried there? Maybe that would give me some clues as to which family members stayed in the area and a few clues to look somewhere else? Thank you so much for any help you can give........Mary --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Search presents - Jib Jab's 'Second Term'
I will be happy to check for you, Barbara. In fact, in looking for your Coleman family yesterday, I checked to see if any of the children had married in Cobb and none were listed. I also checked to see if any of the Coleman family shown in the 1880 Cobb census were listed in the Cobb Cemeteries books, and again, they weren't. The only William Coleman who was shown in the 1900 Cobb census was widowed, living alone, and too old to be the one you need. Sorry. Just post the name you need re the marriage lookup and I will see what I can find. You also mention brother M.L., father Ceb (which I've seen also as Sebe), and mother Fanny. The 1860 Clayton County GA census, Northern District, Jonesboro post office, page 115-A, shows Seborn Johnson, 35, with wife M.F. Looking for information on any of these names in Cobb Co. about 1870. Evans VINE along with three children were living with Mary DAVENPORT and Ann WHIPPLE in Cobb co. in 1870. A James and Rachel VINE are near. By 1880 James, Rachel and the three children are in Gregg co. TX. The young children indicate their birth state as AL in 1870 but as GA in 1880.
