    3. Sorry to disappoint you, David, but many of the graves that early had only fieldstone markers (only the more wealthy could afford for marble stones to be shipped upriver to Athens). The old city cemetery which has been encroached upon by the University of Georgia over the past 75 years had many more graves than the 1964 transcription published in the cemetery book. Also most people were buried on their family farms & marked only with fieldstone, because everybody in the family knew who was buried where! Good luck with your search! eve ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Nixon" <Denixon@conwaycorp.net> To: <GACLARKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 23, 2002 12:47 PM Subject: Re: [GaClarke] Re: Clarke County Cemetery Book nixon > John Nixon born abt1752- died abt 1825-1830 > George Henry Nixon born abt 1802 died unk > Thanks for your effort.
