Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Yc.2ADE/815.1 Message Board Post: I found the following article in the Athens Banner-Herald on Monday, Febuary 11th, Front page Army Receives Bodies Of Two Killed In Crash Bodies of the two soldiers killed in the crash of an Army helicopter early Tuesday afternoon a few miles east of the Municipal Airport were taken to Fort McPherson last night and turned over to Third Army officials. Identities of one occupants(sic) of the helicopter were announced as Warrant Officer (jg) Alfred C. Felker, of Fort Benning, Ga., and PFC William T. Taylor, of Franklin, Tenn. The two men were ferrying the helicopter to Fort Brag, N. C., from Fort Benning, where the craft was attached to the 508th Helicopter Company. The helicopter was accompanied by another similar plane, which unmindful of the accident continued on its way. Later in the afternoon it returned at the local airport. The ill-fated plane refueled at the local airport and took-off on its journey from there at 1:03 p.m., and four minutes later crashed to the ground exploding on impact. Witnesses who saw the crash say the helicopter seemed to halt momentarily in the air and then plummet straight down to the ground. The explosion came after the crash and in the resulting fire the bodies were terribly burned.
