    3. In the 1994 draft of the Oconee Hill Cemetery re-copying done by members of the Athens Historical Society were found these markers - evidently the stones do NOT give any further information about the Smith children. Note that these were the only markers extant in the lot - if there were more burials in that lot, they have not been confirmed yet (the revision & annotation of the 1971 edition of Oconee Hill's Old Section is in progress). Also if Sarah Evaline Smith went to Baltimore to live, they brought her back to Athens to be buried here. This was not unusual as Athens had good train service at that time. Surnames: SMITH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Yc.2ADE/851 Message Board Post: Searching for name of cemetery where Martin Luther Smith was buried in 1866. Info from Ezra J. Warner's book "Generals In Gray" says he died in Savannah on July 29, 1866 and was buried in Athens. He married in 1846 to a girl from Athens - I have her name in my records but not handy at the moment. He was a career soldier - graduated from West Point. Born in NY but served in the Confederate Army as MG in the engineer section. Would like to locate the cemetery to determine if his stone has more info, e.t.., names of his sons. Believe his widow went to Baltimore, MD after his death. Know that one of his sons did indeed live in Baltimore where he died. Believe there were several sons. All help greatly appreciated. ==== GACLARKE Mailing List ==== http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaclarke/ Do you have any Court Documents, Deeds, Estate Records.... http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaclarke/Records/Court/index.htm
