    1. [GACLARKE] deSha/Whitehead Divorce 1826
    2. beth learn
    3. George W. DESHA and Maria/Mariah/Mary Ann WHITEHEAD of SC were granted a divorce 22 December 1826 by Act of General Assembly of GA -- filed from Superior Court, Clarke Co GA. Possibly WHITEHEAD was spelled WHITTED at that time. deSha may have been spelled deShay. George W. took the older of two sons, Isaac Robert Newton DESHA (b. about 1821 off when he left Maria. Infant son Joseph Franklin DESHA was brought to north Florida by Maria A. Hunter of SC who may have been Maria A. WHITEHEAD DESHA prior to her divorce from George W. .... In which case HUNTER was her name by remarriage. Some family members think Maria A. Whitehead was the daughter of a Captain (ship captain) Ellat or Elliott WHITEHEAD or WHITTED. Does anyone know where exactly I would go to get a copy of this divorce document. Apparently the Clarke Co courthouse doesn't go back that far. Thanks. Parents of George W. DESHA are unknown but he is thought to be related to the DESHA families of PA and KY, TN, LA and TX.
