    1. [GACLARKE] Re: GACLARKE-D Digest V99 #65
    2. Hi David 'n Everybody, I'm a little embarrassed, but I forgot to mention WALTON as one of the primary counties. > > The primary counties included in the abstracts were: Clarke, Jackson, > Oglethorpe, Madison, Franklin, Habersham, Hall and Gwinnett. There are 71 references to Walton Co., and 49 references to the Town of Monroe ... so Walton is definitely in the book! Also, there is a "gap" in newspapers between the first volume and Vol. 2. The last issue that was located for the "Athens Gazette" was on Oct. 5, 1820. The next newspaper, according to records at the Univ. of GA, was the "Columbian Centinel" which was in effect in 1825-26. The only issues located for the Centinel were found at The American Antiquarian Soc., Worcester, Massachusetts and are scattered for 1826. "The Athenian" started on Jan. 1, 1827 and Volume 2 goes thru Dec. 29, 1829. I was fortunate enough to find 4 missing issues at The American Antiquarian Soc., which has made this time period complete for "The Athenian". Also included in Vol. 2 was an Addendum to the first volume, as I located two original issues of the "Georgia Express", one in 1808 and one in 1809, at the Washington Memorial Library in Macon, Georgia. Thanks again! Faye Poss
