Posted on: Clarke County Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Clarke?read=452 Surname: Atkinson, Willoughby ------------------------- Ellis Willoughby was born in Clark in 1805. He was one of the 12 children of Rev. Soldier Willoughby Willoughby and Jerusalem Jones Willoughby He married Elizabeth DURHAM 31 Dec 1829, in Clark County, Georgia. Both Census and Estate Records document that he and Elizabeth had five children; Ruth, Susan, Martha L, Nancy, and Mary Ann. Ellis Willoughby was living in Clark County, Georgia. in 1830. He and his family, including wife, Elizabeth Durham, are living in HH 305, next door to his brothers, Thomas and James. Upon the death of Ellis, Circa 1841, his brother David became the guardian his children. From the returns, which begin in 1842, it can be seen that David was not able to keep all the children at his home. He boarded them with friends and/or relatives. The Returns further show that shortly before or after the death of her father, Ruth Willoughby married Burkett Atkinson. Closer observation of the returns also show that two of the children moved to Pike County, Georgia to live with her Aunt and Uncle, Josiah Pyron and Elizabeth Willoughby Pyron. Josiah and Elizabeth became the legal guardian of Nancy and Mary Ann. In the 1850 Pike County Census, Mary Wiloby, born in 1832, is listed with Josiah, Elizabeth and two of their children. Pirant is common early spelling of Pyron. It is thought to be of French origin. I would like to correspond with anyone who know the ancestry of Mr Burkett Atkinson and/or the Durhams. Thank you very kindly.
