Hello List, I am a new subscriber. Does anyone have any knowledge of a Sparks Fort that was built about 1785 four miles outside the present day location of Athens? My ancestor Matthew Sparks came to this area with other settlers from Wilkes Co, NC about 1784-85 and built the fort. Matthew was killed by the Indians in November, 1793 while he was out hunting.
