Posted on: Clarke County Deeds Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/ClarkeDeed?read=7 Surname: Elder, Blakely, Hardigree ------------------------- William Willoughby died in what is present day Oconee County in 1829. (then Clark) Both he and his wife, Jerusalem Jones Willoughby are buried in the Cemetery of Antioch Church in Oconee County. In April, 2000, I was provided with pictures of a marker recently placed on the gravesite of Jerusalem. Her date of death on the marker is 1853. The unmarked grave beside her is that of her husband William. Since Jerusalem is not mentioned in Williams Will or any of the Estate Records or Returns, I believe she preceded him in death. (1826) The land adjacent to where Antioch Christian Church is now located was owned by the Willoughby Family. William WilloughbysÂ’ son David, as directed by his fathers will, retained the family plantation, but sold a small part of the family land to church members to build the present day Church. Antioch Christian Church Deed This indenture made and entered into this the twelfth day of July in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Nine between David Willoughby of the County and State aforesaid of the one part and Philip T. Elder, David E. Blakely and Elisha Hardigree, Trustees of the Christian Church at Republican of the County and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of five Dollars to him in hand paid at and by on the sealing and delivery of their presents the receipt which is hereby acknowledged the said David Willoughby hath granted, bargained, sold and conveyed and does by these presents grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Philip T. Elder, David E. Blakely and Elisha Hardigree, Trustees as aforesaid a certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the county and State aforesaid and known as the tract or lot whereon Old Republican Meeting House now stands and bounded as follows: Beginning on a Red Oak at the corner of the said Willoughby's fence a little North East of the old meeting house to a Black Oak standing just on the North side of said fence thence a South direction to a Red Oak Corner standing on the North side of the road leading from Farmington to Lowe's Store. Thence a direct line to a Pine Stake Corner by the old road on the side of the hill in a direction towards Marable's Shop and thence back direct to the Beginning Corner, containing one acre more or less. To have and to hold said bargained tract or parcel of land unto the said Philip T. Elder, David E. Blakely and Elisha Hardigree, Trustees as aforesaid and to their successors in Office together with all Singular the Rights, members and appurtenances to the same in any manner belonging for the use and benefit of the Christian Church at said place forever in fee simple, and the said David Willoughby for himself, his heirs, Executors and Administrators the said bargained tract of land unto the said Philip T. Elder, David E. Blakely and Elisha Hardigree, Trustees and to their successors in Office will warrant and forever defend the right and forever defend the title thereof against the claim of themselves and against the claim of all other persons whatever. In witness whereof the said David Willoughby hath set his hand and seal the day and year first written. David Willoughby(seal) Signed, Sealed, and Delivered in the presence of Thomas P.
