Au contraire, the OLD ATHENS CEMETERY (aka Jackson Street Cemetery next to the UGA Arts Dept) IS in this volume. Oconee Hill Cemetery, which was the next city cemetery, was begun in 1856 & is NOT in this book. Neither are the modern burial parks. The Oconee Hill Cemetery book is well along toward being published, probably soon after the first of the year 2001 - in time for the Athens Bicentennial. Mrs. Charlotte Marshall is the editor of that volume (she also did the 1971 edition). Thanks for the plug - BTW the Clarke County Cemeteries book is still in print & available from the Athens Historical Society at P.O. Box 7745, Athens, GA 30604-7745, for $30.00 plus $2.50 shipping. This cemetery is located on Thomas Street across from the campus. >
